After road trips to Merkel and Stanton this past week, Sweetwater High School’s varsity basketball teams are both playing at home today. But their opponents will be from different schools. The SHS girls will host Lamesa at 6 p.m. at Mustang Gym, while the SHS boys entertain Breckenridge at 7:30 this evening.
After a 35-30 loss to state-ranked Merkel on Thursday, the Lady Mustangs (9-8) won their last three games at Stanton’s tournament.
Both the Highland girls and Blackwell boys came away with second-place finishes at their respective tournaments which ended on Saturday.
The Highland girls and boys hosted their annual Hilltop Classic which also included the Roscoe boys and girls. The Plowboys won third place by beating Highland on Saturday, while the Plowgirls won the consolation title.
A second-place finish by the JV girls in Abilene and a 3-0 record by the freshman boys at their own tournament highlighted Sweetwater High School’s sub-varsity high school basketball action this past weekend.
Also, Sweetwater’s seventh grade White boys finished 3-0 and the eighth grade White boys were 2-1 at their local tournament to finish as champions and co-cham-pions, respectively, of their divisions.
