Returning to their home court for one final time — and less than 48 hours after a heart-breaking defeat at their gym Saturday to Big Spring that basically eliminated them from playoff contention — the Sweetwater girls basketball team had to deal with state-ranked Wylie.
As expected, the No. 14 Lady Bulldogs (8-0 district, 20-13) won, 58-38.
But the Lady Mustangs (1-6), after a rough first half, regrouped rather impressively and held their own with Wylie over the final two periods.
The Sweetwater boys basketball team unveiled a new lineup against first-place Wylie here Monday as a pair of recent JV callups, Ryan Linebaugh and Kyle McSherry, started for the first time. The Mustangs also got a 20-point effort for the second straight game from junior guard Taylor Jones, who had 22 after dropping a season-high 28 on Big Spring just two nights earlier.
Both Blackwell junior high boys basketball teams ended their seasons recently. The ‘A’ boys team finished as Zone 1 runner-up and was fourth overall in District 12-A, Division II with a 6-4 record.
