Sweetwater High School track athletes will be competing at the District 5-3A meet in Snyder today and Wednesday with the goal of earning a top-three finish, which will qualify them for the Region I-3A meet at Lubbock that is scheduled for May 2-3.
The top three in each event advance to regionals.
Jayci Shelton, who was a state qualifier last year, will be among Sweetwaterâ€™s top hopefuls at regionals.
The top three at regionals advance to Austin, where the state meet will be held at the University of Texasâ€™ Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Ryan Mercer qualified for the third straight year, but Sweetwater as a team fell short Monday in its bid to advance to the Region I-3A boys golf tournament in Lubbock.
Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s tennis players competed at their District 5-3A tourna-ment in Big Spring this past Thursday and Friday, but none will advance to the regional tournament at Lubbock. Results follow:
Stephen Shipp lost to Logan Tabor of Snyder 4-6, 3-6.
Michael Foust-Austin Coth-erman beat Snyder 6-3, 6-0; lost to Brownwood 4-6, 3-6 in the quarterfinals; Javier Solano-Isaiah Hernandez lost to Velasques-Yruegas 2-6, 0-6 in the quarterfinals.
