Blackwell and Highland are back in action today as Nolan County’s two six-man teams will again try to pick up their first wins of 2011.
Both teams are on the road as Blackwell (0-1) goes to Lohn (0-1) and Highland pays a visit to Loraine (0-1). Both games kick off at 7:30 p.m. Next week, Highland has its home opener against Novice and Blackwell entertains Lueders-Avoca to celebrate homecoming.

For most local football observers, the jury is still out on just how good this year’s Sweetwater team is after the Mustangs’ 10-0 victory over Vernon in their season opener.
The defense had a shutout for the first time in the Craig Slaughter era and the kicking game was rock solid with Tadeo Canon-Masjoan nailing his kickoffs deep, as well as kicking a 32-yard field goal and his only extra point attempt. The latter came after Ryan Linebaugh scored Sweetwater’s only touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second period.
It was almost exactly one year ago when Roscoe gave Jonathan Haseloff his first win as the team’s head coach with a 19-6 victory over Hawley.
Today in the opener of the Sammy Baugh Classic at Sweetwater’s Mustang Bowl, the Plowboys (0-1) try to duplicate that feat when they face Hawley (1-0). The kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
ABILENE — The Sweetwater High School volleyball team lost by a 3-0 count Tuesday at Abilene Cooper as the hosts prevailed by scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-23.
Sweetwater (12-11) will be not see any action this weekend. However, the Lady Mustangs will return to Mustang Gym for the first time since Aug. 9 by hosting Lamesa next Tuesday.
