SMS football teams get split with Greenwood

The four Sweetwater Mid-dle School football teams came away with a split de-cision against Greenwood this past Thursday as the seventh and eighth grade Red squads won while the White teams lost.
Sweetwater travels to Big Spring this Thursday.
7th grade Red 70, Greenwood 0
Showing dominance from the start, Sweetwater Red led 24-0, 38-0 and 56-0 at the quarter breaks and ran its season record to 5-0.

SMS tennis nips Snyder

The Sweetwater Middle School tennis team won 14 of 27 matches vs. Snyder in a match played Monday.
The team will end its season at Midland’s Tall City tournament on Nov. 10.

CC runners’ district meet moved to Wednesday

Sweetwater High School’s cross country team has re-scheduled its district meet at Snyder for Wednesday, after rainy weather forced a cancellation of Monday’s scheduled action.
In addition to competing at a tuneup meet hosted by Roscoe this past Tuesday, Sweetwater also traveled to Odessa for a meet Oct. 11. Places and times follow:
Girls — 131. Madison Howard 25:45.8; 156. Addi-syn Cleckler 30:31.3; 157. Ashley Erwin 30:32.4; 160. Hannah Sanchez 31:28.4.
Boys — 125. Colton Scott 21:15.3; 131. Brandon How-ell 23:05.1.
The district meet will be run at Snyder’s Western Texas College.

Rangers pull away in 2nd half to hand Mustangs 31-13 defeat

Missed opportunities in the first half for Sweetwater led to second-half domination in the Mustangs’ Dis-trict 4-3A showdown Friday with Midland Greenwood.
The visiting Rangers, after spotting Sweetwater a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, gradually took control and came away with a 31-13 win that leaves both teams 1-1 in district play.
Greenwood (5-2 overall) was led by quarterback Kam Williams, who accounted for 381 yards — 245 pas-sing and 136 rushing — and four touchdowns. The 6-3, 200-pounder had scoring runs of 10, 9 and 7 yards and also threw a 10-yard TD pass to Logan Day.

Roscoe plows winless Ranger to even district mark

ROSCOE — The Roscoe Plowboys evened ther rec-ord at 2-2 in District 7-A, Division II on Friday as they shut out a winless Ranger team, 52-0, before the home crowd at Plowboy Field.
One week after losing to district leader Albany 69-12, Roscoe dished out its own punishment. The Plowboys got two TD runs by Eduar-do Gallegos and one from Vincent Pantoja and Este-ban Benivamondez in rush-ing for 379 yards to Ran-ger’s 28. Gallegos ran for 165 yards and Pantoja 102. Also, Cutter Davila was 15-of-25 passing for 193 yards and had TD throws to Gallegos, Benivamondez and Shelton Toliver.

CC runners tune up for district meet

Sweetwater High School’s cross country runners com-peted at a meet hosted by Roscoe this past Tuesday in their final tuneup for the district meet at Snyder.
Individual times were as follows:
Girls — Madison Howard 16:08.16; Marissa Sanchez 16:09.80; Addisyn Cleckler 18:56.81; Hannah Sanchez 20:23.60.
Boys — Colton Scott 18:21.19: Brandon Howell 20:23.16.

Tennis team wins 14 of 18 matches against Greenwood
Sweetwater High School’s tennis team did exception-ally well this past Tuesday, winning 14 of 18 matches against Midland Greenwood at the SHS courts.

Lady ‘Stangs rally to sweep G’wood

After suffering a defeat at Big Spring three days earlier that eliminated any hopes of reaching the playoffs, the Sweetwater volleyball team — which by many accounts has had an excellent season — showed off its talent while beating Midland Greenwood in three games at Mustang Gym.
After winning the first two games over the Rangerettes by scores of 25-15 and 25-17, Sweetwater (24-15 overall) staged a terrific rally to get a sweep with a 25-19 win in Game 3 that dropped Greenwood to 1-8 in district.

Sweetwater, Roscoe host big district games today

While only two Nolan County high school football teams will see action today, their games will be crucial as Sweetwater and Roscoe will both be seeking wins on their home fields today with a chance to seriously dam-age the playoff hopes of the teams they face.
Sweetwater (1-0, 3-3) hosts Greenwood (0-1, 4-2) at 7:30 p.m. in the first-ever district meeting of the two schools, while Roscoe (1-2, 1-5) entertains Ranger (0-3, 0-6) at the same time.
