Former Sweetwater ISD superintendent Steve Maikell was in Austin last weekend to see the first Formula One race on American soil since 2007 and submitted these pictures to the Reporter.
Shown below during the final qualifying is eventual race winner Lewis Hamilton, who on Sunday drove his McLaren car to victory in the U.S. Grand Prix. Hamilton held off Sebastian Vettel for the final 14 laps to capture his fourth victory of the 2012 season.
The race was held on Austin’s new $400 million Circuit of the Americas track that was completed this past June.
Colorado City rallied from a 19-17 deficit after three quarters to hand Roscoe’s Plowgirls their first defeat of the year, 27-23, in Roscoe on Tuesday.
Stina Tomlin led Roscoe (4-1) with five points. Torrey Willman, Kendall Moses, Faith Boren and Carolina Perez scored four points and Shelby Brown two.
Also Tuesday, Highland swept both ends of its doubleheader against Baird with the boys (1-2) getting their first win of the year, 40-32, and the girls (4-2) rolling to a 43-28 win over Baird.
