The Sweetwater Junior League (ages 13-14) Astros competed in a District 5 tournament last week and finished as runnerups after losing 8-6 to Snyder in Mondayâ€™s title game.
The team was treated to a hamburger supper by the Sweetwater Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 2479 after their game Monday. Members of the team posed for a picture prior to the game with Lionel Mendez (standing far right) of VFW 2479.
A big inning helped the Sweetwater Junior League Astros tie its District 5 final 5-5 after three innings, but Snyderâ€™s Astros came back for an 8-6 victory to claim the championship at Sweetwaterâ€™s Sports-manâ€™s Park in a matchup of 13-14 year-old teams.
Rocky Perez ripped a two-RBI single in Sweet-waterâ€™s five-run third and scored the tying run on Branson Guelkerâ€™s RBI groundball. The Astrosâ€™ rally started when Junior Lawhon singled, Hunter Mobley was hit by a pitch and Cory Mendez and Max Gomez walked to score Lawhon.

Sweetwaterâ€™s Astros will play the Snyder Astros in a District 5 Junior League (ages 13-14) championship game at 7 p.m. today in Sweetwater.
Both teams advanced to the title matchup by winning their semifinal contests on Saturday. The Wylie Nationals (Senior League), Abilene Dixie Mets (Junior League) and Abilene Eastern Long-horns (Minor League) all won District 5 titles Sat-urday. The Junior League title game was originally set for Abilene.

Mustang Baseball Camp: Monday through Thursday, June 11-14 at the Sweetwater High School baseball field (Sportsmanâ€™s Park) located inside New-man Park just south of Nolan County Coliseum. The first session for students entering grades 1-5 is from 9-10:15 a.m. while the second session for students entering grades 6-9 is from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Persons will need to register at least 15 minutes before each session begins June 11. Cost: $40, which includes a T-shirt. Sweetwaterâ€™s Major League Dâ€™backs are celebrating after defeating the Snyder Braves 9-7 at their District 5 tournament this week. The team also beat the Jim Ned Rangers in their next game to reach the quarterfinals before losing to Abilene Dixieâ€™s Mets, 5-4, at Abilene Northern on Thursday.
Shown is Sweetwaterâ€™s Kobe Clark being congratulated after a home run. Despite losing to Dixie, the Dâ€™backs are in the tournament semifinals after being chosen as the Major Leagueâ€™s wild card team. They will play again against Wylieâ€™s Rangers at 8 p.m. today at Abilene Northern.
