July 14th
Sweetwater’s 11-12 year-old Little League all-stars faced elimination Saturday after splitting their first two games at a Texas West Sec-tion 2 tournament held in Carrollton.
Reserved season tickets for Sweetwater High School’s 2012 football season were up for renewal to current option holders beginning this past Monday and the renewal period will continue through Friday, Aug. 3.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be holding its 15th annual First Bank Texas/FCA Golf Fellowship Friday, Aug. 10 at the Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene. The annual tournament is used to cre-ate awareness of the FCA’s ministry outreach, and also to raise funds to support programs and activities which are associated with the local FCA chapters in the Big Country.
The tournament will in-clude hole-in-one prizes and special hole prizes. The cost will be $125 for indivi-duals, and is $600 for team sponsorships which will include sign registration.

July 12th
A talented group of Sweetwater 11-12 year-old Little League all-stars will be taking on Burkburnett in a Texas West Section 2 tournament at Carrollton starting at 7:30 p.m. today.
This is the third straight year for most of the team’s players to be in a sectional tournament after winning the District 5 tournament in Abilene. It began in 2010 when the vast majority of them traveled to Fort Worth to play on a 9-10 year-old team and continued in 2011 when they went to Waco as 10-11 year-olds.
July 6th
ABILENE — There was plenty of drama Thursday at the District 5 Major League (ages 11-12) championship game between Sweetwater and Wylie that was held at Abilene’s Will Hair Park.
The biggest drama came at the end of the game.
ABILENE — After win-ning a tiebreaker to make it to the semifinal round as a wild card entry and then defeating Abilene North 6-5 on Tuesday, Sweetwater’s run at the District 5 Junior League (ages 13-14) title came to an end on Thursday as Abilene South won 12-2 in the championship game at Abilene Wylie’s field.
July 5th
ABILENE — Sweetwater will be represented in two of the final three District 5 Little League all-star championship games today after semifinal wins on Tuesday.
Sweetwater’s 13-14 year-old all-stars will take on Abilene South at 7 p.m. in the Junior League final at Abilene Wylie after beating Abilene North, 6-5, in their semifinal.
July 4th
The 10 and under all stars from Sweetwater Fastpitch recently competed in the state tournament in McKinney Texas. The team ended up being state champions. The girls are Zoe Cornett, Alicia Gomez, Madison Hernandez, Zoee Jeffrey, Elli Lehnert, Kendale Orozco, Liberty Saenz, Mia Valdez, Rose Vera, Jazi Villa and Kaci Webb. Coaches are Ryan Jeffrey, Adrian Gomez, Samantha Webb and Chris Gomez.
July 3rd
Two Sweetwater Little League all-star teams have advanced to the District 5 elimination round and will play semifinal games in Abilene today, while a third local team narrowly missed joining them.
Sweetwater’s 11-12 year-olds advanced by shutting out Merkel 6-0 in their final pool game to finish with a 2-1 record, and join the three pool winners as as a wild card entry after having the lowest runs-allowed per inning ratio of the pool runnerups.
