Mustangs burn Greenwood

October 21, 2013

GREENWOOD — The Sweetwater football team arrived at Greenwood to a huge dust storm on Friday, and after that subsided the Mustangs had to play in by far the coldest weather they have seen since practices began in early August.
But none of that weather — or a Greenwood squad that was fighting to save its playoff hopes in District 4-3A — could slow down Sweetwater.
For the first time in over a month, Coach Shane Mob-ley’s team left the field on the right side of the score-board as they ended a three-game losing streak with a 54-29 victory.

JV romps 46-0, but freshmen are beaten by G’wood

October 21, 2013

Sweetwater’s junior var-sity team cruised to a 46-0 home win on Thursday over Greenwood as the Mustangs remained undefeated (2-0) in district and are now 5-1 for the season.
Max Gomez threw for six touchdowns, four of them to Michael Green and two to Hunter Mobley, who also returned an interception for a score. Other defensive standouts for Sweetwater, which allowed just one first down, were Adrian Vizzer-ra, Keegan Von Atzigen and Colby Greenwood.
Also, Branson Guelker played well on the offensive line and was able to finish the game after dislocating a finger.

Roscoe rallies to beat Ranger

October 21, 2013

RANGER — Roscoe did not take a lead in its District 7-1A, Div. II game at Ranger until the third quarter on Friday, but still came away with a badly-needed win as the Plowboys prevailed by a 46-36 count.
Roscoe (3-4 overall) im-proved its district record to 2-2 and got several outstanding offensive perfor-mances. Cutter Davila, the team’s quarterback, threw for 287 yards and five TDs on 14-of-25 passing.
His favorite target, once again, was Shelton Toliver, who caught six passes for 104 yards with four scores.

Blackwell to play one district game after two other opponents forfeit

October 21, 2013

Blackwell’s varsity football team will play only one of the three other teams in its district after forfeits by Lohn and Panther Creek, the school has announced.
Blackwell plays Robert Lee on Nov. 1 in its only district game, originally scheduled for Oct. 25.

GREENWOOD — The Sweetwater volleyball team helped its playoff chances on Friday by winning its District 4-3A match at Mid-land Greenwood in four highly-competitive games.
The Lady Mustangs (3-4 in district, 12-19) outlasted Greenwood 27-25, 26-24, 26-28, 25-18.
Sweetwater, which has three games remaining in the season, solidified its bid for the No. 4 and final district playoff berth and got help from Big Spring, which beat Snyder (1-6) on Friday. Greenwood is last at 0-7.
