Itâ€™s taken awhile, but all three Nolan County football teams outside of Sweetwa-ter are hitting their stride.
The good news for Roscoe is twofold: not only are the Plowboys off to a 2-2 start after winning a total of two games the past two seasons, but â€” and much more im-portantly â€” they are 1-0 in District 7-1A, Division II after a 47-6 win over Baird this past Friday.
Roscoe will now travel to Cross Plains â€“ also 1-0 in district â€” on Friday as the Plowboys try to build on last weekâ€™s success.
The Mustang Baseball Classic golf tournament will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Sweetwater Country Club with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. This event is a four-person scramble, and all proceeds from this yearâ€™s tournament will go to support the Sweetwater High School baseball program by enabling the purchase of additional equipment.
Sweetwaterâ€™s sub-varsity high school volleyball teams were both defeated by Wylie here on Tuesday to fall to 0-2 in district play.
Sweetwaterâ€™s JV lost 3-25, 13-25. Katie Fox had two kills; Marissa Moncada had one kill, one ace and one dig; Alyssa Soles had seven digs; Sarah Valdez had five assists and three digs; Abby Garcia had two digs and one block; Lauren Jones had two digs and one ace; and Alyssa Villanueva and Kristi Ward had one dig.
These players were recognized for their outstanding play in matches with Wylie or Monahans, or both.
MIKEILAH FOUST: Vs. Monahans â€” 1 kill, 1 assist, 1 dig and 1 block
Vs. Wylie â€” 4 kills, 3 digs and 2 blocks
MADDIE JONES: Vs. Monahans â€” 10 assists, 4 digs

KAYLA CHOWNING: Vs. Wylie â€” 3 kills, 2 service aces and 12 digs
ALY HEREDIA: Vs. Wylie â€” 1 kill, 7 assists and 7 digs
Daven Alvarez is Sweet-waterâ€™s Football Player of the Week.
Alvarez, a senior defensive end, was in on 13 tackles, two of them unassisted, in a 35-30 loss to Brownwood this past Friday.

Chris Thompson had a hand in all five touchdowns for Sweetwater Red (2-1) when it defeated Brown-wood this past Thursday.
Wylie had to struggle to put away Sweetwater here Tuesday before winning the teamsâ€™ District 4-3A volleyball match in three games.
That was good news for Sweetwater coach Liz Miller, whose team (0-2, 9-17) lost by scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-19 to Wylie (2-0, 21-9) at Mustang Gym.
â€śIâ€™m proud of my girls. I thought they did great. We competed,â€ť Miller said.
Sweetwater led for much of Game 3, which was tied 13-13 until Wylie scored 12 of the last 18 points to com-plete a three-game sweep.
Sweetwaterâ€™s tennis team is at Midland for a 1 p.m. match with Monahans after winning its Saturday match 11-8 at Greenwood.
Boys doubles â€” Key-gan Valdez and Billy Reeves lost 0-8; Chris Shoemaker and Tyler Stacy won 9-7; Marc Butler and Christian Ulbrich lost 5-8.
Mixed doubles â€” Bry-an Vause and Jenny Medel-lin won 8-0.
Girls doubles â€” Crys-tal Foust and Teresa Perez-Poe won 8-1; Naomi Gon-zales and Rebecca Gonzales won 8-4; Gisela Selano and Ezzy Mermella won 8-0.
