Sweetwater boys at Early (season openers) — freshmen at 4 p.m., JV at 5:15 p.m., varsity at 8 p.m.
Sweetwater girls at Early — JV at 4 p.m., freshmen at 5:15 p.m., varsity at 6:30 p.m.
Roscoe JV and varsity girls at Colorado City at 4 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
Roscoe JV and varsity boys at Colorado City (season openers) at 5:15 and 8 p.m., respectively.
Highland JV boys at Eula (season opener), 5 p.m.
Highland varsity boys at Panther Creek (season opener), 7:30 p.m.
Highland JV and varsity girls will host Clyde starting at 5 p.m.

SHS boys to start at Early

Sweetwater High School’s boys begin play when they and the girls travel to Early for a basketball doublehea-der today.
The Mustangs return two all-district players — first-team honoree Kaleb Hoover and second-team pick Dylan Bennett — as well as two who got honorable mention, Isaiah McGee and Rhett Torres, from a 13-15 squad. With that talent, the Mustangs are hoping to improve on their fifth-place record (2-8) in district.

SMS teams claim titles

The seventh grade and eighth grade Red girls teams both won championships at Sweetwater Middle School’s girls basketball tournament this past weekend.

SMS scoring: Amber Knox 18, Kara Lehnert 2, Emerald Torres 2, Julia Rees 2, Hannah Mobley 2, Shavie Green 1.

Highland girls still No. 1

The Highland girls basketball team is still No. 1 in Class 1A, Division II in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ initial regular-season poll that was released Monday.

Plowgirls rally to win

ROSCOE — A late rally pushed Roscoe past Winters, 31-27, in girls basketball ac-tion Tuesday. The Plowgirls trailed by one until winning the fourth period 12-7.
Roscoe (2-2) led 8-7 after one quarter but Winters led 18-14 at halftime and 20-19 after three periods.
Roscoe was paced by Eva Aguayo with 10 points. Ashton Payne added eight points, Shelby Brown sev-en, Olivia Saddler three, Whitney Williams two and Selena Perez one to the win-ning cause.
Roscoe’s JV girls lost 51-17 to Stamford’s JV.
