SW gets split at Wylie

March 29, 2013

ABILENE — After a split decision Thursday at Wylie, Sweetwater’s softball and baseball teams both share the lead in District 4-3A — and nothing will change un-til at least next Friday.
The Lady Mustang soft-ball team (4-1) won 7-3 to remain in a tie for first place with Snyder in the district at the halfway point.
But the Mustang baseball team (3-1) lost, 14-7, to fall out of undisputed first place and into a three-way tie with Big Spring and Wylie.
The next action for Sweet-water’s teams will be April 5 at Snyder. The district is taking a break due to student testing next week.

Mustangs alone in 1st after 2nd straight run-rule victory

March 27, 2013

The Sweetwater baseball team has been doing a lot of things right since district play began. The Mustangs are now 3-0 after Tuesday’s 11-1 victory over Monahans.
That, along with a 10-9 Snyder win over Wylie, has vaulted Sweetwater to the top of the 4-3A standings.
Sweetwater leads Big Spring — which shut out Greenwood 10-0 — Wylie and Snyder by a game as all of those teams are 2-1 in the district while Greenwood and Monahans are 0-3.
But there are still seven games left, and the Mus-tangs’ hold on first place is about to get a severe test.

Lady Mustangs in 3-way tie for lead

March 27, 2013

Sweetwater did its part on Tuesday to remain in the thick of the District 4-3A softball chase, defeating Monahans 6-2 at the Jerry Collins Complex.
And with an assist from Big Spring, the Lady Mus-tangs are now in a three-way tie for the district lead.
Big Spring threw the 4-3A race into chaos by beating Greenwood 3-1, while Sny-der was a 15-0 winner over last-place Wylie. Sweetwa-ter, Greenwood and Snyder are now all 3-1, just ahead of 2-2 Big Spring with six games left to play.
