Plowboys take on IC in home opener

September 6, 2013

All three Nolan County area high school football teams face opponents tonight they had little success against in 2012, and only Roscoe plays at home.
The Plowboys — 0-1 after losing to De Leon 34-21 in their opener — entertain Irion County in their home opener at 7:30 p.m. Highland, also 0-1 after losing to Motley County 62-59, travels to Sterling City.
Finally, Blackwell — 1-0 after beat Westbrook 52-0 last week — goes to Jayton.
Those three opponents won last year’s games by an average of nearly 39 points, but things should be better this time around.

Miles, Quanah kick off 9th annual Classic on Saturday

September 6, 2013

A pair of first-time parti-cipants, Miles and Quanah, will begin the ninth annual Sammy Baugh Classic with an 11 a.m. kickoff Saturday at Mustang Bowl.
With a new sponsor this year, the event will be known as the 2013 Shale Show Sammy Baugh Classic and will have three games spread out over two week-ends. On Friday, Sept. 13, play resumes as Sweetwa-ter faces Breckenridge in its home opener at 7:30 p.m.
The Classic will then end its run on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Bowl with two more first-time participants, Booker and Brock, playing the finale at 6 p.m.
