Taking a break from the heat

A total of 45 players reported and coach Jake Freeman expects a few more before the week ends. The Plowboys play their first scrimmage Aug. 15 as they host Haskell.

August 4th

Practices get started

Summer vacation ended for all Sweetwater High School varsity football players when held their first practices of the 2014 season this morning at Mustang Bowl. Assistant coach Skylar Houston is shown leading drills.
Between 80 and 95 players were expected to show up for practices, which were also held today at the practice field across from the Bowl. Roscoe, Blackwell and Highland also held their first workouts of the season today.

SHS workouts set to begin

Sweetwater High School’s football and volleyball ath-letes will get a jump on the 2014-15 school year Monday when they report for their first practices.

Camps slated at SIS & SMS

August 4, 2014

A Jump Rope Camp will be held Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 4-6, for students completing grades K-4. Grades 3-4 will attend from 9 a.m. to noon and K-2 will attend from 1-3 p.m. The camp will be held at the Sweetwater Intermediate School gym.

Also, A volleyball camp will be held Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 6-8 at the Sweetwater Middle School gym for students who are entering grades 4-8 this year.

Season ticket renewal period to begin Monday

Reserved season football tickets for the 2014 season will be up for renewal to current option holders be-ginning Monday, Aug. 4 and through Friday, Aug. 22.
Tickets may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD ad-ministration office on 207 Musgrove and are good for five home games — on Aug. 29 against Lubbock High, on Sept. 12 against Breckenridge (Sweetwater homecoming), on Sept. 19 against Snyder, on Oct. 24 against Monahans and on Nov. 7 against Lamesa.

Area football teams slated to start their workouts for 2014 season

All Nolan County high school football teams outside Sweetwater start 2014 season workouts when they report to their respective locations Monday, with the first scrimmages and games just weeks away.
At Roscoe, athletes begin their practices at 6:30 a.m. and sessions will continue until 10:45 a.m. Approx-mately 54 players are expec-ted to report, 12 more than a year ago, said Roscoe coach Jake Freeman. The first scrimmage will be Aug. 15 against Haskell and the second is Aug. 22 vs. Munday.

Legends Baseball Club wins bracket at Andrews tourney

Sweetwater’s 9-and-under AA Legends Baseball Club recently played in a USSSA tournament held in Andrews, compiling a 3-2 record despite playing together for only about a month, and taking first place in the silver bracket with three wins on the final day.

Aiken earns 3A all-state recognition from TSWA

Sweetwater’s Greg Aiken, who will play baseball for McMurry University starting next year, this past week added a second all-state honor to his list of postseason achievements.
Aiken, who as a senior compiled a .443 batting average with 17 extra-base hits and also fielded .990 at first base for the Mustangs, was a Class 3A second team all-state selection at that position by the Texas Sports Writers Association.
