Sweetwater still alive in playoffs after wearing down Lions in 2nd half

MINERAL WELLS — The Sweetwater football team’s playoff journey continues.
Vernon, led by fullback Isaiah Love, piled up some 329 yards rushing with its Wing-T attack on Friday and didn’t punt once.
Sweetwater, though, never trailed and time after time, the Mustangs came up with the clutch plays they needed to stay in control.
When the dust had settled, Sweetwater had a 49-27 win in the Class 4A, Division II regional playoff as its season stayed alive for at least one more week.

Cooper girls beat SW

The Sweetwater girls fell to 0-4 after losing, 50-36, to Abilene Cooper in basket-ball action here Tuesday.
The Sweetwater boys went to Andrews and lost, 67-52, in their opener Tuesday.

HERMLEIGH — With one quarter left in Friday’s Class 1A, Division II regional playoff, Blackwell held a 46-40 lead. But Sands out-scored Blackwell 32-14 in the fourth quarter to claim a 72-60 win.
