On July 4, Old Town Park and Cypress Street in Roscoe were full of people with their coolers and lawn chairs, who enjoyed the music of Nine Mile Mountain and Cody Canada and the Departed, followed by a fireworks show. This Roscoe team will play in a 15-and-under Texas Teenage Junior League State Baseball Tournament in Colorado City to be held July 20-24. Three recently-graduated high school athletes from Nolan County will be participating in all-star games held by the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association on July 18 at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.
Highlandâ€™s Madison Moseley is on the West team for the girls basketball game that is scheduled to begin at noon at Midwestern Stateâ€™s D.L. Coliseum.
Sweetwaterâ€™s state title bid ended on Friday at the Texas 7-on-7 Championships with a 39-33 first-round loss to Brock in the championship bracket at College Station.
Sweetwater went 3-0 in pool play Thursday to reach the championship round as it defeated Lorena, Krum and Goliad, all by 20-22 point margins, but lost by a 39-33 score in the first bracket round for the second straight year. Sweetwater lost to Tyler Chapel Hill by that score in 2014.

Sweetwater won all three of its pool games Thursday at the state 7-on-7 tournament in College Station, advancing the team into the championship bracket for the second straight year.
Sweetwater â€” whose team is coached by Kyle Lawrence â€” was to play its first Division II bracket game at 9 a.m. today against Brock, with the winner to take on either Albany or Gatesville at 10:15 a.m.

The 8 and under Sweetwater Bratz All-Stars were named the Texas American Softball Association Girls 8 and under State Champions. They played in Abilene and went undefeated. The tournament consisted of all-star teams from Abilene, Wylie, Cisco, Coahoma, Ballinger, Colorado City, Eastland, Weatherford and Clyde.

Recent Sweetwater High School graduate J.P. Poe is one of five pitchers in the 2015 All-Big Country baseball teamâ€™s starting rotation, as announced recently by the Abilene Reporter-News.
Two local sports camps are planned this month.
Sweetwaterâ€™s second football appearance in the Texas 7-on-7 Championships is set to begin on Thursday at College Station, after punching its ticket several weeks ago by winning a state qualifying tournament in Brock for Division II.
The latter classification is for Class 4A and below public schools as well as smaller private schools.
