SW getting best-of-3 rematch with Pampa

May 1, 2015

Two years ago when a history-making Sweetwater softball team last made it to the playoffs, the Lady Mustangs lost 5-0 to Pampa at Lubbock Coronado High School in the second round in a one-game matchup.
Today, with a lineup that has five players from the 2013 team, Sweetwater returns to the same location to face Pampa in a first-round playoff — only this time with a best-of-3 setup. Game 2 — and Game 3, if necessary — will also be held at Lubbock Coronado. The eventual winner faces Fort Stockton or San Elizar-io in the second round.

‘Stangs receive the No. 2 seed

May 1, 2015

Sweetwater’s baseball team will be the No. 2 seed from District 2-4A entering this year’s playoffs after finishing in a tie with Big Spring for first place at the end of the regular season. The teams held a coin flip at Wednesday’s district meeting, rather than having a one-game playoff, in order to decide seeding after finishing 8-2 in district. Sweetwater’s bi-district foe will be the third-place team in District 1-4A.

Mustangs edge Tigers, claim share of 2-4A title

April 29, 2015

It wasn’t easy, but after a 4-3 win over Snyder here Tuesday, Sweetwater is the District 2-4A co-champion.
And while not as good as winning an outright title, the result left the Mustangs feeling good in many ways. They defeated a big rival Tuesday to end the regular season, are in the playoffs for the third consecutive year and start the postseason on a positive note thanks to some clutch play at Sportsman’s Park.

Lady Mustangs rip Merkel

April 29, 2015

Sweetwater tuned up for its bi-district playoff series later this week by crushing Merkel, 11-0, in a warm-up game Tuesday at the Jerry Collins Softball Complex that lasted just six innings due to the 10-run rule.

April 28, 2015
