The Lady Mustangs â€” who made the playoffs despite fielding one of their most inexperienced teams in several years â€” were defeated in three games in the match at Crane High School.
Sweetwaterâ€™s JV girls bas-ketball team beat Highlandâ€™s JV girls, 34-29, on Monday in the season-opening game for both teams. Lauren Jones had 15 points to pace Sweetwater, while Sabrina Romero had 11 points to lead Highland.
Also scoring for Sweetwa-ter were Abby Garcia with six, Marissa Sanchez with five and Gabby Fuentes, Payton Moore, Jaya Atkins and Kaitlyn Foster with two points each. Kristen Harris had nine, Kailee Hall three and Emily Harris, Madison Braden and Kellse Cornett two apiece for Highland.

THURSDAY, NOV. 7
Sweetwater 7th grade â€˜Bâ€™ and â€˜Aâ€™ teams will host Wylie at 4 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., respectively.
Sweetwater 8th grade â€˜Bâ€™ and â€˜Aâ€™ teams will host Wylie at 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., respectively.
Sweetwater freshman and JV teams will play at Wylie at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
Roscoe junior high and JV teams will host Roby at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respec-tively.
Highland JV will host Hermleigh, 4:30 p.m.
Highland varsity will host Hermleigh, 7:30 p.m.
Blackwell junior high hosts Panther Creek, 6 p.m.
Blackwell JV will host Garden City, 7:30 p.m.
CRANE â€” Sweetwaterâ€™s first volleyball playoff game in five years started well for the Lady Mustangs, who held several comfortable leads in the opening game of Tuesdayâ€™s bi-district matchup with Fabens.
However, the Lady Wild-cats suddenly came alive with a 9-0 run that turned an 18-13 Sweetwater lead into a 22-18 deficit. Fabens won, 25-22, and went on to complete a three-game sweep after winning the last two games by scores of 25-19 and 25-13 at Crane High Schoolâ€™s gym.
The seventh grade Red picked up the only football victory for Sweetwater Middle School at Mona-hans this past Thursday.
All four SMS teams will end their seasons by hosting Wyie this Thursday.
7th grade Red 28, Monahans 8
Sweetwater Red got TDs from Carson Brownlow (15-yard run), Ethan Cabal-lero (20-yard run) and Alex Gallegos (70-yard run) in the first half vs. Monahans, and Taiden Smith also scored on a 75-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter. Brownlow and Gallegos had extra-point runs.

Sweetwa-ter clinched a playoff spot by beating Snyder, and the Lady Mustangs will now face Fabens at 5 p.m. today to begin their post-season run. The bi-district playoff will be in Crane.
Class 3A met Class 1A on Tuesday when the Highland girls basketball team made the short trip to Sweetwater as both teams opened their 2013-14 seasons.
And it was no contest â€” but not the way you might think.
Ahead 21-19 at halftime, the visiting Lady Hornets completely dominated the last two periods as they crushed the Lady Mustangs 55-24 at Mustang Gym.
Cory Mendez is the Sweet-water Football Player of the Week.
Mendez was in on nine tackles, three unassisted, and had an 81-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the teamâ€™s 28-9 win over Monahans.
Roscoe and Highland runners competed at the Region II-A cross country meet this past Saturday in Grand Prairie. None of the runners qualified for the state meet, which is for the top three teams and top 10 individuals in each division. Their individual places and times were as follows:
