In a matchup of two volleyball teams desperate for a win, Sweetwater emerged with a three-game sweep over Midland Greenwood on Friday at Mustang Gym.
But it was hardly a rout, as the Lady Mustangs need-ed every point to produce a 25-23, 25-23, 25-23 victory and improve to 1-2 in Dis-trict 4-3A, while Greenwood fell to 0-3.
Sweetwater had the upper hand most of the night, but had trouble finishing off the Rangerettes.
BLACKWELL — It took Blackwell just 14 plays and two quarters to score 78 points here Friday.
The defense was just as good, pitching a shutout. The result was a 78-0 win as the Hornets improved their season record to 6-0 on Blackwell’s homecoming.
The game was over at halftime due to the 45-point mercy rule used in six-man. Blackwell scored 34 points in the first period and 44 in the second.
Even with just 14 plays on offense, a lot of different players got involved.
CROSS PLAINS — It was looking real good for Roscoe at halftime on Friday.
The visiting Plowboys had just finished off a 24-point second quarter, and they led Cross Plains 31-14.
Roscoe’s quarterback, Cutter Davila, had already thrown three touchdown passes, two of them to Shelton Toliver and the other to Max Nemir.
But just one quarter later, Roscoe found itself trailing 43-31 as Cross Plains scored 29 straight points en route to dominating the second half in a 56-31 victory.
Roscoe’s junior varsity shut out Cross Plains, 38-0, on Thursday.
If that sounds familiar, Roscoe won by the same score over Cross Plains a week earlier in Cross Plains before playing Thursday on Roscoe’s field.
Roscoe’s two junior high teams are 3-0 after beating Cross Plains on Thursday.
The eighth grade Plow-boys won 18-6.
Francisco Garcia had a hand in all three scores for Roscoe, as he had TD runs of 5 and 15 yards as well as a 22-yard scoring pass to Clemente Aguayo.
Roscoe’s seventh grade team got three TD runs by Jose Ortega and one from Tagen Adkins as they won their game 26-0.
Ortega scored on runs of 26, 54 and 12 yards, while Adkins had a 12-yard TD run for the Plowboys and Ortega had a pair of two-point conversions as well.

The Lady Mustangs (0-2) will try again for their first district win today when they entertain Greenwood.
Roscoe’s football team currently sits atop the District 7-1A, Division II standings after a 47-6 win over Baird in its opener last week at Roscoe.
But for the Plowboys to improve their record to 2-0, they must find a way to beat a Cross Plains team tonight on its home turf.
And while Roscoe is 2-2 this season — matching its total wins for the past two seasons — the team is 0-2 on the road so far.
