GARLAND — After giving up 15 runs in a lopsided loss to Waco Southern two days earlier, Sweetwater’s Senior League (ages 15-16) all-stars were much more competitive when the teams met again Saturday in the Texas West Section 2 championship game.
However, it still wasn’t enough as Waco Southern pulled away late to claim the title with a 5-1 victory at South Garland’s Little League complex and ad-vance to the state tourna-ment in Fort Worth.
WACO — After three straight losses to Fort Worth University — two of them in last year’s 9-10 year-old sectional tournament and the other this year — the players on Sweetwater’s 10-11 year-old Little League team faced their nemesis again in a losers bracket final Saturday at the Texas West Section 2 tournament in Waco.
This time, the teams en-gaged in a thrilling contest that saw the teams locked in a 3-3 tie at the end of the regulation six innings.
