Six Sweetwater girls basketball players have earned all-District 4-3A recognition for their outstanding play. All six are seniors.
Kendra Crosson, Kelsi Crosson and Suede Shirley all received first team all-district honors in 4-3A, and Shelby Cason was named to the second team. Elise Law-rence and Janell Walker earned all-district honora-ble mention.
Sweetwater was 21-15 this season and made the play-offs for the first time since the 2005 season. The 21 wins were also the highest total in eight years.
Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s junior varsity softball team recently won games against Winters and Colorado City by scores of 21-1 and 18-14, respectively.

The Highland girls bas-ketball team has been here before. Two years ago, they were also at the Region II-A tourney at Abilene Christian University where they lost to Newcastle in the semifinals. This yearâ€™s team hopes for a much different outcome when it plays Baird in the semifinals at 7 p.m. today.
The ultimate goal will be to do something no Highland team has done â€” go to the state tournament in Austin. That means the Lady Hornets (29-4) must not only defeat Baird (26-6) but also beat Garden City or Eula, who play in todayâ€™s other semifinal, in the II-A final on Saturday.
Eight Nolan County high school seniors will play in a total of three all-star games as part of the Big Country Chevy Dealers-Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Festival this summer.
Sweetwater will be rep-resented by Kendra Crosson in the fifth annual FCA girls basketball game on June 6 in Brownwood; by Shelby Cason, Kelsi Crosson and Suede Shirley at the first-ever FCA volleyball game on June 8 in Abilene; and by Tadeo Canon-Masjoan, Ryan Linebaugh and Nick Nemir at the 14th annual FCA football game on June 8 in Abilene.
THURSDAY, FEB. 21
Sweetwater varsity plays at Granbury tournament through Saturday, Feb. 23.
Sweetwater varsity will be hosting tournament at the Jerry Collins Complex through Saturday, Feb. 23.
Sweetwater JV will play at Midlandâ€™s Tall City tournament starting at 8 a.m.
FRIDAY, FEB. 22
Region II-A, Divis-ion II girls semifinal playoff: Highland vs. Baird, 7 p.m., Abilene Christian Universityâ€™s Moody Coliseum.
Note: Winner plays in Region II-A, D-II final at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at same location.
After a three-day break, the Sweetwater softball team resumes play Friday by hosting a two-day, round-robin tournament at the Jerry Collins Complex.
The Lady Mustangs (4-5) went 3-4 at the Abilene Ice Breaker tournament this past week before playing a single game on Monday at Tahoka against Muleshoe, which Sweetwater easily won 15-0. Results follow:

The Sweetwater High School girls golf teams will be hosting the annual Sweet-water Girls Golf Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Sweetwater Country Club.
Fridayâ€™s play will begin at 9:07 a.m. on the No. 1 and No. 10 holes. The scores will determine Saturday pairings, and Saturdayâ€™s play will have a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The top three teams and medalists will receive awards following the 36-hole eventâ€™s conclusion on Saturday.
The final softball signups for girls between the ages of 5-14 will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at the Fourth and Elm Church of Christ warehouse.
Persons should bring a copy of their childâ€™s birth certificate.

Four Sweetwater High School girls track team members competed this past Saturday at the Texas Tech Indoor Invitational.
Abby Garcia competed in the high jump (4-6), 55-meter dash (8.12) and 200-meter dash (29.34); Cierra Knox competed in the shot put (28-9); and Mickenzie Brownlow and Marissa Sanchez competed in both the 55-meter dash and 400-meter dash. Brownlow ran the 55 meters in 8.29 and the 400 meters in 1:09.2, and Sanchez ran the 55 meters in 8.34 and the 400 meters in 1:09.8.
