BIG SPRING — The big-gest game of the season for Sweetwater produced its highest-scoring and most lopsided win of 2012.
More importantly, Fri-day’s 42-9 victory catapul-ted the Mustangs (2-1, 4-4) into the forefront of the District 4-3A playoff picture and set up a monumental game with Monahans (2-1, 4-4) this Friday in Sweet-water’s final home game.
GORMAN — Despite one of its best offensive efforts of the season, Roscoe had six turnovers in a 42-21 loss at Gorman on Friday.
Roscoe finished with 323 total yards to Gorman’s 332 in the contest, which leaves both teams 2-3 in district play with two games left.
Individually, two Roscoe players enjoyed big nights offensively by finishing with over 100 yards each. Eduardo Gallegos led all Plowboy rushers with 123 yards on eight carries. The top receiver, Shelton Toli-ver, had 110 yards on seven catches.
Roscoe’s 21 points were its second highest one-game total of the season.
With a mere three weeks left in the regular season, all four high school teams in Nolan County will finally be playing the games that really matter — the ones involving other teams in their districts — starting today.
Sweetwater and Roscoe are well into their district schedules, and both have important games in District 4-3A and District 7-1A, Div-ision II, respectively, that they may need to win in order to remain viable contenders for the state playoffs that will begin next month. Sweetwater (1-1) goes to Big Spring (0-2), while Roscoe (2-2) is also on the road at Gorman (1-3) today.
For the second straight week, Sweetwater will be facing a team Friday that is desperate for a win in order to remain a viable conten-der for the postseason.
The Mustangs are facing a Big Spring team that is 0-2 in district play after rolling through its non-district schedule with a 5-0 record. The Steers can’t afford ano-ther loss, but Sweetwater (3-4, 1-1) will be almost as desperate when it takes the field at Big Spring.
