Six Sweetwater players have earned first team all-District 4-3A football honors and sophomore quarterback Kaegan Jeffrey is the co-newcomer of the year.
Three of the first team-ers â€” senior Willie Norman, junior Kaleb Hoover and sophomore Bray Amos â€” are wide receivers while the other three are on defense â€” senior lineman Tadeo Canon-Masjoan, senior linebacker Ryan Linebaugh and sophomore defensive back Isaiah McGee.
The Sweetwater boys and girls basketball teams both finished in fourth place at their respective weekend tournaments in Ballinger.
Sweetwaterâ€™s boys (2-3) lost to Clyde 59-46 in their third-place game Saturday. Deandre Gatson led Sweet-water with 16 points.
The Mustangs had defea-ted Hawley 43-29 to open the tournament on Thurs-day and advanced to Frid-ayâ€™s semifinal before losing to Ballinger 50-48. Jim Ned won the title by defeating Ballinger 63-29 on Satur-day. Two Sweetwater play-ers were named to the all-tournament team â€” junior Dylan Bennett and sopho-more Rhett Torres.
The Highland girls won all four of their games this past weekend to capture the title at Bronteâ€™s tournament.
Highland (9-2) had little trouble beating any of its opponents at the round-robin event. After routing Hamlin 56-30 on Thursday, the Lady Hornets knocked off Miles 55-28 on Friday and then completed the tournament by whipping Bronte (40-14) and Winters (57-19) on Saturday.

Sweetwater 7th and 8th grade girls host Snyder, 5 and 6 p.m.
Sweetwater 7th and 8th grade boys play at Snyder, 5 and 6:15 p.m.
Roscoe junior high teams (except â€˜Bâ€™ girls) will host Highland starting at 5 p.m.
Blackwell junior high teams host Paint Rock starting at 6 p.m.
TUESDAY, DEC. 4
Sweetwater boys play at Merkel â€” freshmen at 4 p.m., JV at 5:15 p.m., varsity at 8 p.m.
Sweetwater girls play at Merkel â€” JV at 5 p.m., varsity at 6:30 p.m., freshmen at 8 p.m.
Roscoe JV and varsity teams play at Trent starting at 4 p.m.
Blackwellâ€™s best football season in four years â€” one that ended with its first playoff appearance since 2008 â€” saw six Hornets make the all-District 8, Division II six-man first team and nine players honored in all.
Making the all-district first team at two positions were junior Jayden Jones at both running back and linebacker and senior Mark Monroe at both fullback and on the defensive line.
Also named to the first team for Blackwell were senior Cody Shamblin at tight end, junior Ted Chambliss at safety, junior Mason Magness at corner-back and sophomore Franck Cano on the defensive line.
After winning all three of their games on Thursday, Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s varsity basketball teams were a collective 0-3 Friday at their respective three-day tournaments in Ballinger.
However, the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs were still highly competitive as two of the defeats were by a combined three points.
Sweetwaterâ€™s sub-varsity boys basketball teams split their two games at Wall that were played on Tuesday.
The JV boys fell to Wall 60-24 to remain winless at 0-3, but the freshman boys won 44-18 in their season opener.
Marquees Jenkins scored 13 points, Johnathan Brow-ning six, Jack Poe three and Michael McCoy and Matthew Trevino one each for the JV boys while for the Sweetwater freshman boys, Denzell Moore poured in 12 points, Isaiah Gonzales seven, Colton Jackson and Michael Lawrence six, Joe Ruiz and Jâ€™Corey Amos five and Alontae Heath three.

Sweetwater teams had a perfect first day of basket-ball competition Thursday at their respective tourna-ments played in Ballinger.
Sweetwaterâ€™s boys (2-1) beat Hawley 43-29 as they advanced into todayâ€™s 7:30 p.m. semifinal against host team Ballinger. Todayâ€™s winner will play for the championship against either Jim Ned or Clyde at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Isaiah McGee led Sweetwater with 10 points. Quentin Wetsel added nine, Rhett Torres seven, Dylan Bennett six, Cole Maxwell four, Deandre Gatson three and Michael Hunt and Tre Taylor two. Sweetwater was up by 22, 28-6, at halftime.
