The Sweetwater boys golf team shot 338 and 333 for a 671 total to place ninth out of 16 schools competing in a Region 1-3A preview tourn-ament in Lubbock held this past weekend.
Andrews won the event while Big Spring, Abilene Wylie, Lampasas, Sny-der, Levelland, Seminole, Borger, Sweetwater and Graham completed the top 10 teams.
Individually for Sweet-water, Alex Castillo shot 85-76-161; Mason Andrews shot 82-80-162; Michael Hunt shot 90-82-172; Mich-ael Hazard shot 81-95-176; and Mark Lawrence shot 107-110-217. The girls have their 1-3A preview starting Friday in Lubbock.
Sweetwater Little League tryouts will start today for those in Farm League (ages 7-8), Minor League (9-10) and Major League (11-12).
The tryouts will be held at the respective fields from 6-8 p.m. Each league will try out on their own field.
The Major League field is located along County Road 419, also known as the cotton oil mill road, while both the Minor League field and the Farm League field are located just east of the Nolan County Coliseum stock barns.
The alternate date for try-outs is Saturday, March 2. Tryouts that day will be at the Minor and Farm fields only.
The Highland girls basketball team plays top-ranked Saltillo in the Class 1A, Division II state semifinals Friday.
The game is set to tip off at 1:30 p.m. at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. This is the first trip to the state tournament for Highland.

Sweetwaterâ€™s varsity soft-ball team had a perfect 4-0 record at its annual tournament this past weekend at the Jerry Collins Complex and now has an 8-5 season record as the Lady Mustangs host Graham today at 7 p.m.
Also, the Sweetwater JV will play Grahamâ€™s JV team today at 5 p.m.
Sweetwaterâ€™s varsity began its tournament Friday with a 17-0 victory over Winters and an 8-6 win vs. Colorado City. On Saturday, Sweetwater again defeated Colorado City 11-5 and then defeated Pecos 12-1 in its final tournament game.

Sweetwaterâ€™s boys track team competed at Hamlin this past Friday.
Nick Nemir placed first in the long jump (20-11 1/2), 110-meter hurdles (15.46) and 300-meter hurdles (43.08) and was fourth in the 100-meter dash. Bobby Soto was third in the 200 dash (23.89), while Isaiah McGee was third in the long jump (20-9 1/2) and Deandre Gatson was third in the triple jump (39-9).
A pair of basketball playoff games will be held at the Sweetwater High School gym Wednesday.
Plainview Christian Academy takes on Gran-bury North Central Tex-as Academy at 5:30 p.m. in a girls playoff, and Plainview Christian Academy will play Wichita Falls Notre Dame in a boys playoff at 7 p.m.
The games were originally scheduled for Tuesday but moved back due to bad weather. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students.

There was plenty to celebrate during and after Highlandâ€™s 47-29 win over Garden City in the regional finals on Saturday at Abilene Christian University.
