Sweetwater regional track qualifiers

These Sweetwater High School athletes will compete Friday and Saturday in the Region I-3A track meet being held at Texas Tech University. SHS relay places 6th at RQ meet in Brownwood

Sweetwater High School’s 800-meter boys relay ran a season-best time of 1:33.3 for a sixth-place finish at a regional qualifiers meet held April 19 in Brownwood.
Kaleb Hoover, Ryan Linebaugh, Nick Nemir and Sam Nemir were the runners on the relay, which will be in Lubbock starting Friday at the Region I-3A track meet. Nick Nemir will also be competing in the 100-meter run and 300-meter hurdles.

S’water, I-Park playoff Saturday

The Sweetwater High School softball team’s first playoff game in 15 years has been moved up a couple of days.
Its one-game, Class 3A bi-district playoff con-test with Iowa Park will now be played Saturday, April 28 in Graham start-ing at 7:30 p.m. It had originally been set Mon-day, April 30 in Graham.
Sweetwater, which has a 14-9 season record, was the third-place team in District 5-3A with a 4-4 record while Iowa Park was the No. 2 team in District 6-3A.
This is just the third time Sweetwater has made the softball playoffs since it became a UIL sport here.

SHS girls golf team 4th at regionals

The Sweetwater High School girls golf team shot 408-409 for an 817 total to place fourth at the recent Region I-3A tournament in San Angelo. Members of the team were, from left, Molly Fincher, Alex Gomez, Haylee Stewart, Elise Lawrence, Amy Witt and Rachel Hunt.

Steers rally in 7th for 5-3 win to end Mustangs’ season

After escaping a bases-loaded jam in the top of the sixth and scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning, the chances of Sweetwater’s baseball team getting into the Class 3A playoffs were looking good here Friday night.
But a 3-2 lead evaporated when visiting Big Spring came up with three runs in the top of the seventh, and the Steers held on for a 5-3 win at Newman Park to bring a heartbreaking end to the Mustangs’ season.

Mustangs’ hopes hinge on beating Steers today

Despite a 2-5 record in district play and an 11-0 loss to Snyder here Tuesday, the Sweetwater High School baseball team enters today’s regular season finale against Big Spring with solid hopes of reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

SHS girls golf 4th at regionals

SAN ANGELO — The Sweetwater High School girls golf team shot a 409 in Thursday’s final round of the Region I-3A tournament to finish in fourth place with a two-day 817 total.
Sweetwater finished well back of the top two teams. Andrews (325-643) and Snyder (370-742) grabbed the two berths and advance to the state tournament in Austin on May 2-3.
