SW teams get bum Steer

February 1, 2012

BIG SPRING — Desper-ately needing a win to have any realistic hopes of getting to the playoffs, visiting Sweetwater was down by just four points (26-22) against Big Spring after starting out the third quarter of Tuesday’s District 5-3A game with a 5-0 run.
But Big Spring answered that surge, which included a 3-pointer by Kendra Cros-son followed by Crosson’s steal and layup, with a resounding run of its own. The Lady Steers (3-3) scored the next 23 points to put the game out of reach and claim a 53-31 victory.

And while the Mustangs struggled again offensively, they trailed by just two, 19-17, at halftime and later cut a 16-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to just nine (45-36) with 2:47 left in the game.

SHS teams try to build on success

January 31, 2012

This past week was by far the best one for both of Sweetwater High School’s varsity basketball teams since district play began.
The teams each got their initial 5-3A win by defeating Snyder on Tuesday, then got the district’s bye Friday.
Another victory today at Big Spring would not only continue the recent success but also vault the Mustangs (1-3) and Lady Mustangs (1-4) into a third-place tie with Big Spring (whose teams are 2-2 and 2-3). The girls and boys tip off at 6 and 7:30 p.m., respective-ly, with JV and freshman games also on tap.
