Sweetwater High School football players showed up early today for their first official day of practice of the 2012 season.
The more experienced Mustang players held their practice at the Bowl, while new players were at the practice field located between Crane and Ragland streets.
The Mustangs will have full contact drills in pads starting Friday, and their first of two scrimmages will be here Aug. 18 against Wichita Falls Hirschi.
Football athletes at all four of the high schools located in Nolan County are scheduled to report for their first workouts on Monday.
A volleyball camp will be held starting Monday, Aug. 6 at the Sweetwater Middle School gym on 305 Lamar Street.
Two sessions will be held. Students who have completed grades 6-7 will attend from 9-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 6-10, while students who have completed grades 3-5 will attend camp from 1-3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Aug. 6-9.
This yearâs camp fee will be $35 and includes a T-shirt.
Sweetwater High School officially kicks off its 2012 volleyball season Monday with the first practices, followed by the teamsâ first scrimmages just four days later and then the Lady Mustangsâ opening season matches Monday, Aug. 13.
SHS head coach Liz Miller expects between 45 and 50 athletes to report Monday at 6:30 a.m. Morning workouts will be from 7:15 a.m. to noon with a 45-minute break in between, followed by a 90-minute lunch break and an afternoon practice from 1:30-4 p.m.
Reserved ticket sales for the general public to all five Sweetwater High School football games for 2012 will on sale starting Monday, Aug. 6 during regular summer business hours at the Sweetwater ISD administration office on 2o7 Musgrove Street. The summer business hours for the Sweetwater ISD are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday. Today is the final day for current option holders to renew season tickets for Sweetwater High Schoolâs 2012 home football games.
Tickets are $30 for the five home games and may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD administration office during regular business hours. Reserved ticket sales for the general public go on sale at Sweetwater ISD starting Monday, Aug. 6.

A large group of students âÂ a total of 76 âÂ entering grades 3-9 invaded Mustang Bowl this past week to participate in a Mustang Football Camp. In addition to emphasizing skills and drills, the camp included punt, pass and kick instruction and competitions.
Sweetwater High School fans will get a chance to meet the new SHS coaches at a âMeet the Mustang Coachesâ event which is set for Thursday, Aug. 16 from 6-8 p.m.
The event will be held at Sweetwaterâs Dairy Queen on 1608 Lamar Street.
All of the proceeds from the event will be used for the Sweetwater High School athletic program.
Students enjoyed this year's week-long Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp this year which finished up on Friday, July 27, 2012. Each day included individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily World Cup tournament.
