The Sweetwater White Flag football team will play in their Super Bowl game at noon Sunday. The game will be at Wylieâ€™s Bulldog Stadium. The team beat Abileneâ€™s Bucs 25-6 last week to advance as Jadyn Forbes scored four touchdowns and Tyler Chavez kicked an extra point. Cash Barnes, John Rine, Angel Delapaz, Ivan McCann, Jayden Perez and Logan Thompson led the defense and Derek Arenivaz, Roman Camacho and Kyler Holsey also turned in outstanding performances.
Sweetwater High School has a pair of girls basket-ball teams who are off to 3-0 starts this season. The JV girls are also 3-0 after Tuesdayâ€™s 32-17 victory at Breckenridge.
Larissa Locklar paced the Lady Mustangs with 11 points. Also scoring were Shaneese Brown and Syd-ney Vanderbilt with six, Mikki Reschman with three, Maddie Jones and Taylor McPherson with two and Elise Lawrence and Karlee Murff with one point.
Sweetwater led 11-4, 17-6 and 27-10 at the quarter breaks. Sweetwaterâ€™s varsity and JV girls will play at Abilene High on Friday.
Highland JV girls win
Sweetwaterâ€™s Junior PeeWee football team will play for the Super Bowl title at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Wylieâ€™s Bulldog Stadium against the Wylie White team. Sweetwater reached the championship game by beating the Abilene Bucs 37-0 in the quarterfinals, and then the Abilene Redskins 19-13 in the semifinals. The public is urged to come show its support. HAWLEY â€” The Sweet-water boys basketball team had victory in its grasp, taking a 42-41 lead at Hawley with 14.5 seconds left on Tuesday. But the Bearcats came back to claim a 43-42 win on a last-second shot.
Kaleb Hoover scored 27 points for Sweetwater, the last two giving the Mustangs a one-point lead with 14.5 left, but Hawleyâ€™s Keagan Fernandez came back to swish the winning basket with five seconds left and spoil Sweetwaterâ€™s opener.
BRECKENRIDGE â€” The Sweetwater girls basketball team, after winning its first two games at home, went on the road for the first time Tuesday and improved to 3-0 this season with a 51-22 victory over Breckenridge.
Kendra Crosson had 20 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Lady Mustangs, while Sweetwaterâ€™s defense had its best game yet as it held Breckenridge to single digits in all four quarters.
Sweetwater â€” which gets a tough road test this Friday at Class 5A Abilene High â€” led 13-2, 23-11 and 32-15 at the breaks and outscored Breckenridge 19-7 over the final eight minutes.
The Roscoe girls basket-ball team got its first win of the season Tuesday, and it came at the expense of ano-ther Nolan County squad.
The Plowgirls (1-1) used dominant second and third quarters to come away with a 58-21 win at Blackwell.
Roscoe led just 8-6 after one quarter, but exploded for 27 second-quarter points in building a 35-11 advantage. The Plowgirls then outscored Blackwell 19-2 in the third period to open up a commanding 54-13 lead over their hosts and coasted from there to the victory.
HIGHLAND â€” Highlandâ€™s basketball teams pulled off a sweep against Robert Lee Tuesday as the boys won their opener, 42-39, and the girls (2-1) prevailed 39-31.
Ron Covington scored 17 points, Kaden Nachlinger nine, Ethan Wilson six, Shelby Howard five, Lara-mie Thompson four and Brandon Steven one for the boys while in the girls game, Kara Hughey had 14 points, Sierra Allen 11, Beth Rich-burg five, Schyler Kimbrell four, Lora Stewart three and Megan Thompson two. Both teams play at Guthrie this Friday.
HAWLEY â€” Sweetwaterâ€™s junior varsity boys basket-ball team easily defeated the Hawley JV boys, 50-11, to begin their season Tuesday.
Trey Taylor had 20 points to pace the Mustangs, who led 15-4 after one quarter, 27-6 at halftime and 38-7 after three periods en route to the victory.
Dylan Bennett had eight points and Brandon Howell, Isaiah McGee and Duanta Williams four, Mike McCoy three, Deandre Gatson, Marquees Jenkins and Rhett Torres two and Quen-tin Wetsel one.
The Roscoe Collegiate High School Spanish Club will host a warball tourna-ment this Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the RCHS gym. The price per team is $30. Each team will consist of six players with a maximum of two substitutes (6-8 players allowed).
