Highland (1-2) won its first game of the season this past Friday by defeating Novice, 70-52.
The Sweetwater Middle School seventh grade Red team was the only winner in season-opening football action this past Thursday as it defeated Levelland 36-0.
Jacoby Hunt ran for five touchdowns in the victory. His TD runs went for 14, 48, 28, 4 and 70 yards. In addition, Hunt had a 63-yard run to Levelland’s 14-yard line to set up his first TD. Jordan McGee had a pair of two-point conversion runs and Daniel Olguin one.

Sweetwater (1-1), meanwhile, hopes to get back in the win column at Levelland today after losing to Monahans at the Sammy Baugh Classic this past weekend.
After giving a good Mon-ahans team fits at Mustang Bowl this past weekend and battling the state-ranked Loboes on even terms for three quarters before losing, Sweetwater plays a different set of Lobos this Friday.
And the spelling of their nicknames — Levelland’s Lobos, unlike Monahans, don’t include an ‘e’ in theirs — are only one of the differences between the two former Class 4A and now Class 3A schools.

The Sweetwater High School volleyball team has been pretty good at winning on the road this season. It’s a good thing, because prior to Tuesday, the Lady Mustangs hadn’t played in their gym since their season opener on Aug. 9.
As a result the team, according to coach Liz Miller, had a small case of nerves going into its match with Lamesa and she wasn’t sure what to expect.
But the result was just fine as Sweetwater (13-11) had a straight-set victory, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 at Mustang Gym to stay above .500 this season.
Though he wasn’t a one-man team, Rotan’s Bryson Alls certainly did everything he could to help his team beat Ranger here Saturday.
Alls had three intercep-tions, including one with 10 seconds left that thwarted the Bulldogs’ final drive, plus a fumble recovery and also rushed for 84 yards in leading the Yellowhammers to a 26-20 victory in the finale of the seventh annual Sammy Baugh Classic.
Sam Nemir is Sweetwater’s Football Player of the Week. Nemir, a 5-9, 170-pound senior who starts at fullback and linebacker, was the team’s leading tackler and rusher this past Friday against Monahans. He had an outstanding defensive game with eight solo tackles, one for a loss, eight assisted tackles and one sack. In addition, he rushed five times for 23 yards.
