While it was a struggle for both teams early, Lubbock Estacado was in control af-ter the 3-pointers began to fall against Sweetwater in their 2-4A boys game Tues-day at Mustang Gym. And they fell at a dizzying rate.

Winless since the start of district play, the Sweetwater girls basketball team was in position to change that here Tuesday against Lubbock Estacado at Mustang Gym.

Signups now being held locally

Registration for Sweetwa-ter Little League baseball began Monday and is be-ing held this week at the Sweetwater Middle School choir room. It continues today from 7-8:30 p.m., and will be held again from 6-8 p.m. on Friday.

Sweetwater girls will host Lubbock Estacado — JV at 5 p.m., varsity at 6:30 p.m.
Sweetwater boys will host Lubbock Estacado — JV at 5 p.m., freshmen at 6:30 p.m., varsity at 8 p.m.
Roscoe at Haskell — JV girls at 4 p.m., JV boys at 5:15 p.m., varsity girls at 6:30 p.m., varsity boys at 8 p.m.
Highland JV and varsity teams will host Hermleigh starting at 4 p.m.
Blackwell varsity girls and boys will host Robert Lee starting at 6:15 p.m.
THURSDAY, JAN. 22
Roscoe junior high teams will host tournament.

Mustangs recognized by SISD

The Sweetwater High School football team was honored at the Sweetwater Independent School District’s recent board meeting. The 13-1 Mustangs were district champs and advanced to the Class 4A, Division II semifinals.

Pair of lifters 1st in class at Abilene meet

Bray Amos and Rebecca Gonzales won their respective weight classes this past Saturday for Sweetwater at Abilene High’s season-ope-ning powerlifting meet.
