GREENWOOD â€” After being shut out for the first time all season in a 9-0 Game 1 loss on Friday, the Sweetwater softball team roared back to claim a 9-4 win Saturday and force a decisive third game in its Class 4A area playoff series with Fort Stockton.

The teams will play a best-of-3 series at Midland Greenwood High School, said Sweetwater head coach Roland Herrera.

LUBBOCK â€” It was supposed to be an afternoon-evening doubleheader of high school playoff baseball for Sweetwater and Borger.
But the teamsâ€™ bi-district playoff turned into a night of Mustang domination, as Sweetwater won both ends of the doubleheader for a sweep of the best-of-3 series at Lubbock Monterey High Schoolâ€™s Moegle Field.

Even though Sweetwaterâ€™s softball team in making its third postseason run in the past four years, last weekâ€™s 2-0 series sweep of Pampa advanced the team past the first round for only the second time in school history.
If the team upsets Fort Stockton â€” 22-3 overall, ranked No. 9 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and District 4-4A champion with a 10-0 record â€” in a best-of-3 area round series starting today, the Lady Mustangs advance to Round 3 for the first time ever.

The Sweetwater baseball team is in the playoffs for the third year in a row, and the Mustangs have gone at least two rounds deep in the last two.
In that time theyâ€™ve faced five different schools. Start-ing today, they face a sixth â€” a Borger team that comes in with a .500 record (12-12) but advanced as the No. 3 seed out of District 1-4A with a 5-3 record.

Sweetwater has made a change to its best-of-3 bi-district baseball playoff series with Borger this weekend.
Head coach Roland Herrera said Wednesday that the games will still be at Lubbock Monterey High School's Moegle Field starting Friday. However, the format has been altered with two games on Friday and the other game, if necessary, on Saturday at the same location.
Hannah Allen is going back to the state meet.
The Highland junior will be going for the third year in a row, this time as a wild card entry in both girls hurdles after finishing third in both at the Region II-1A meet that was held at Angelo State University.

ABILENE â€” Sweetwaterâ€™s district co-champion baseball team prepared for this weekendâ€™s Class 4A bi-district playoff series by playing a warmup game vs. Class 5A Abilene Cooper at its field on Monday.

The Sweetwater softball team, which swept Pampa 2-0 in its bi-district playoff, will be playing another best-of-3 series with Fort Stockton this weekend, with all games at Midland Greenwood High School.
The teams have set Game 1 for 6 p.m. Friday. Game 2 will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, and if a third game is necessary, it will start about 30 minutes after Game 2 ends.
Sweetwater (18-9) is in the area playoffs for the second time in three years after its series-clinching 14-4 win over Pampa.

Sweetwater completed a 2-0 sweep Saturday of its best-of-3 bi-district softball series against Pampa with a 14-4, five-inning win at Lubbock Coronado High School. The Lady Mustangs now play Fort Stockton in the area round later this week. Details were not yet known at press time.
