Sweetwater High School finished in fifth place at the team tennis regional tournament held March 2-3 in Odessa.
Sweetwater began the tournament with an easy 10-1 win over Levelland, but then lost to Andrews, the tournamentâ€™s top seed, 10-1 in the next round before coming back for an 11-8 win in the fifth place match against Monahans to end the tournament and the team tennis portion of its season.
Individual results for Sweetwater players included the following:
Chris Hernandez beat Chad Lawson 6-2, 6-1.
Stephen Shipp beat Ben Vargas 6-2, 6-3.
Sweetwater won its sec-ond boys golf tournament of the 2012 season on Tuesday by shooting a one-day score of 314 for a two-shot victory at Seminoleâ€™s Gaines County Golf Course.
Sweetwater beat out Midland Christian for first-place honors. Lubbock Monterey (336) was a dis-tant third and Odessa Per-mian (337) was fourth.
Sweetwaterâ€™s Mason Andrews carded a 74 to win tournament medalist honors over Midland Christianâ€™s Jacob Hibler and Lubbock Cooperâ€™s Matt Hillstrom at Seminoleâ€™s tournament.
Sweetwaterâ€™s JV baseball team built a 7-0 advantage and held on for a 7-6 road win at Midland Greenwood this past Monday.
Hayden Reeves, Sean Norman and Bray Amos had two hits and Zach Carrasco and J.P. Poe one, with both Reeves and Carrasco getting doubles. Norman had two RBI and Reeves, Amos and Poe one. Amos, Carrasco and Reeves scored twice and Ty Crain once. Poe pitched the first 4 1/3 innings to get the win and Reeves pitched the final 1 2/3 for a save.
A number of Roscoe High School basketball players have received all-District 9-1A, Division I honors.
For Roscoeâ€™s girls, Lynnsi Moses made the first team while Jacinda Morales and Faith Boren were named to the second team. In addi-tion, Sara Kingston and Mirian Solis received all-district honorable mention.
The Roscoe boys had two honorees. The Plowboysâ€™ Jesus Leanos, a sophomore, shared District 9-1A, Division Iâ€™s newcomer of the year award with Kelby Bell of Haskell and Keeston Ford received all-district honorable mention.

FRIDAY, MARCH 9
Sweetwater varsity at Abilene tournament has been cancelled due to rain and cold weather.
Sweetwater boys qual-ifiers will compete at Region I, Division 2 meet in Sundown.
Sweetwater varsity hosts Vernon, 4 p.m. (cancelled due to rain and cold weather).
Sweetwater JV and varsity boys at Big Spring Invitational meet (cancelled due to rain and cold weather).
Highlandâ€™s Sierra Allen has been named the all-District 11-1A, Division II MVP, while teammate Kara Hughey also was named to the all-district team and three other Highland players â€” Beth Richburg, Lora Stewart and Megan Thompson â€” got all-district honorable mention.
In addition, Allen received an even bigger honor as she was named first team all-state by the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association. Allen and Hughey have also both been named first team all-region by the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association.
Four girls will be repre-senting Sweetwater High School on March 17 at the state powerlifting meet in Corpus Christi after top-two finishes at regionals.
Loni Mendez, Joslyn Rosas, Cari Aguilar and Lexie Perez will go to state after qualifying at the regional meet held in Monahans, while Alexis Thompson qualified as a state alternate after garnering a third-place regional finish.
A total of 17 powerlifters â€” 14 from Sweetwater and another three from Roscoe â€” will represent Nolan County at Region I boys meets that are being held in Sundown this weekend.

Sweetwater won three of its four softball games at the Big Spring tournament this past weekend, and is now 9-5 overall heading into the teamâ€™s final two pre-district contests this weekend.
First-year coach Bobby Williamsâ€™ squad started out bracket play at Big Spring by shutting out Levelland 9-0 and Forsan 10-0, then beat Lamesa 8-5 before losing to Odessa High 5-1 and then falling to Hawley, 5-4, in the championship game of the Silver Bracket.
