The West Texas Threat fastpitch softball 10-under team competed in a Midnight Madness tournament in San Angelo from July 22-24 and took second place. Roscoe coaches, including Jonathan Haseloff, Chuck Cathey and Alan Steele, run drills as football practices got started Monday.
The 2011 Sweetwater Mustangs tried to beat the heat when they took to the field early today to begin working out for the upcoming football season at the high school practice field. Practices also began today for football players at Roscoe, Highland and Blackwell as well as for the Sweetwater volleyball team.
The unofficial start of the 2011-12 high school sports season arrives Monday, as Nolan County football and volleyball athletes report for their first workouts.

The Texas Titans played in Midnight Madness last weekend in San Angelo and earned the Championship Trophy for the 14 and under division. The girls did amazing outscoring their opponents 43-3 in the tournament.Â
Sweetwater Youth Soccer registration will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1 and Tuesday, Aug. 2 and again on Friday, Aug. 5 at Hibbett Sports, located at 1008 East Broadway Street. There will be no late registration. Sweetwater Youth Soccer is open to boys and girls between the ages of 4-12 years. The soccer season will start on Saturday, Sept. 10. Reserved season football tickets to Sweetwater games for the 2011 season are up for renewal to the current option holders through Friday, Aug. 5.
Tickets may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD administration building, located on 207 Musgrove.
Tickets are $30 for Sweetwaterâ€™s five home games which will be against Vernon on Aug. 26, Mona-hans on Sept. 2, Early (homecoming) on Sept. 16, Big Spring on Oct. 14 and Brownwood on Oct. 28.
Reserved ticket sales for the general public will go on sale on Monday, Aug. 8. The last day to purchase season tickets will be Friday, Aug. 19.
