Lady Mustangs win opener

An extremely inexper-ienced Sweetwater High School volleyball team sur-prised a lot of folks last year when the Lady Mustangs advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Sweetwater football players and coaches spent their offseason trying to prepare themselves for a brand-new Class 4A district and a lot more travel this year.
But the Mustangs hope that the biggest change will come in early November when, instead of turning in equpment, they’re looking ahead to the postseason.

Renewal period for SHS option holders set to continue

Current option holders have until Friday, Aug. 22 to renew reserved season football tickets to Sweetwater High School home games for the 2014 season.
Tickets may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD ad-ministration office on 207 Musgrove and are good for five home games — on Aug. 29 against Lubbock High, on Sept. 12 against Breckenridge (Sweetwater homecoming), on Sept. 19 against Snyder, on Oct. 24 against Monahans and on Nov. 7 against Lamesa.

V’ballers prepare for first matches

The Lady Mustangs are less than a week away from their season opener against Grape Creek here next Monday, and before that will have preseason scrimmages at both San Angelo Central and Lub-bock Frenship that will be played this weekend. Miller is entering her 12th year as the head coach at Sweetwater.

A total of 45 players reported and coach Jake Freeman expects a few more before the week ends. The Plowboys play their first scrimmage Aug. 15 as they host Haskell.

Practices get started

Summer vacation ended for all Sweetwater High School varsity football players when held their first practices of the 2014 season this morning at Mustang Bowl. Assistant coach Skylar Houston is shown leading drills.
Between 80 and 95 players were expected to show up for practices, which were also held today at the practice field across from the Bowl. Roscoe, Blackwell and Highland also held their first workouts of the season today.

SHS workouts set to begin

Sweetwater High School’s football and volleyball ath-letes will get a jump on the 2014-15 school year Monday when they report for their first practices.

Camps slated at SIS & SMS

August 4, 2014

A Jump Rope Camp will be held Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 4-6, for students completing grades K-4. Grades 3-4 will attend from 9 a.m. to noon and K-2 will attend from 1-3 p.m. The camp will be held at the Sweetwater Intermediate School gym.

Also, A volleyball camp will be held Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 6-8 at the Sweetwater Middle School gym for students who are entering grades 4-8 this year.
