The world’s brightest 5K is coming to TSTC

The public is invited to participate in a local Color Dash on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 10:30 a.m. starting and ending at TSTC Sweetwater Campus. "This fun, family-friendly event is going to be a big difference maker — it's your city's brightest 5k run/walk," said event organizers. "The Color Dash is a fun-filled experience for walkers, runners and people of all ages, shapes and sizes."

70th annual Fisher County Fair approaches

The 70th annual Fisher County Fair will take place August 15-16 at the Fisher County Courthouse. All ages are encouraged to enter items in the following categories: Baked goods, preserved foods, textiles (clothing and quilts), horticulture and crops, hobbies and crafts, art and photography. Entries will be accepted on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 4-7 p.m. Ribbons will be awarded. Residents of neighboring counties are also welcome to enter. Fair books are available at the Extension office. City Commission: Officer ‘went above and beyond call of duty’

It's been a busy week for the Sweetwater City Commission.
During a regular session Tuesday, police officer Daniel Olds was commended for "going above and beyond the normal call of duty" for his role in attempting to save the life of a critical patient the fire department was called to assist.
The scene at rescue situations such as the one Olds responded to can often be chaotic, but on the day of June 27, Sweetwater's emergency services were stretched particularly thin, according to fire chief Grant Madden.

Too Cool for School derby bout this Sunday

The Mustang Sallies will once again take to the track in their third home bout of the season against the Conroe Cutthroats on Sunday, Aug. 17. The doors will open at 3 p.m. and the action starts at 4 p.m. at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
Tickets are on sale at Creative Graphic Solutions, Fastenal and El Papagayos for $8 in advance. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $12 on Aug. 17. Children 12 and under are free! Be sure to get to the Annex early as seating is limited.

Diane Eileen Creel, age 62, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 at Kristi Lee Manor Nursing Home in Colorado City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Mike Crowley officiating. Interment will be at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Highland eager for return to postseason

It’s been five years since Highland played for a Six-Man (now Class 1A) state championship. But it probably feels like an eternity to Hornet fans because Highland hasn’t been back to the playoffs since.
