The Sweetwater Nationals were the first place team in the Major League and began play at a District 5 tournament in Abilene on Saturday.

There once was a king captured by the Roman army. They took the king with his family to stand before the Roman general to receive the sentence of death. The king fell on his face before the general and said, â€śYou may do with me what you will, but spare my wife and children!â€ť The Roman general was so moved by the plea that he released them all.Â
Later, the king asked his wife about some of the things they had seen while in the Roman generalâ€™s chamber. She said, â€śI didn't see anything.Â My eyes were only on the man who was willing to die for me.â€ťÂ
Come deep into the Amazon Rainforest as the kids go on expedition with the One True God at Avondale Baptist Churchâ€™s Club VBS: Jungle Jaunt.
Avondale Baptist Church invites all children age five years through grade five for their annual Club VBS. The kids will jaunt through adventure-filled Bible stories, create cool rainforest crafts, enjoy rainforest rations and ride the recreation rapids.
The Nolan County Board of Realtors was very excited at the number of applicants who applied for their $500 college scholarship. This scholarship was made available to all of the graduating high school seniors in Nolan County, planning to further their education. The NCBR scholarship committee was also very impressed with the number of applicants that were qualified to receive this award. It was a very difficult job for the selection committee.
Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) students were honored at a recent meeting of the SISD Board of Trustees for various achievements. Resolutions were presented to students, teachers and administrators, recognizing the accomplishments within the district.

The team, led by teacher Kayla Scott, was recognized during the meeting for their accomplishment.
National Financial Literacy Month is recognized in the United States in April, so in an effort to support healthy financial habits, Texas National Bank held an essay contest for eighth graders throughout Nolan County. In response to the first annual contest, Texas National Bank received 52 essays each addressing the topic, â€śDiscuss three steps people can take to begin building wealth regardless of the size of their income.â€ť
Funeral services for Betty Elouise Alderson, 84, of Sweetwater, will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Ward Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Alderson died Thursday, May 30, 3013, at her home.
Three graduating all-district senior players from Sweetwater High School â€” Shawn Campbell, Cole Maxwell and Sean Morrow â€” and coach Roland Herrera are on the East team for a Class 3A all-star baseball game Sunday.
The game, which is one of three all-star games on Sunday held by the Greater West Texas Baseball Coach-es Association, will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Lubbock Cooper High Schoolâ€™s Pirate Field in Woodrow.
Bangs defeats Wall
Bangs defeated Wall, 14-4, in six innings Thursday at Sweetwaterâ€™s Sportsmanâ€™s Park in Game 1 of the teamsâ€™ best-of-3 Region I-2A championship series.
Nolan County residents will now need to provide proof of eligibility at the Nolan County Tax Assessor-Collector's office in order to obtain farm license plates which have a reduced registration fee.
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles wants all vehicles on the road to be properly registered. While this rule requires an additional step for farm vehicle owners, it is important to ensure that only eligible farm vehicles pay the reduced fee.
