Summer sports camps schedule

This summer, Sweetwater will hold a Mustang Basketball Camp, a Lady Mustang Vol-leyball Skills Camp, a Lady Mustang Bas-ketball Camp, a Mustang Baseball Camp, a Lady Mustang Soft-ball Camp, a Mustang Football Camp, and a Tennis Camp. Roscoe will hold a Football Camp and Basketball Camp.

Ten Lady Mustangs are honored

June 5, 2015

A total of 10 Sweetwater High School softball players have been given all-District 2-4A recognition for their outstanding achievements during one of the Lady Mustangs’ best seasons in school history.
Four players — pitcher Maddie Berry, outfielder Abby Garcia, catcher Naomi Gonzales and infielder Cierra Knox — were named to the first team for Sweet-water while three others — infielders Morgan Gomez and Megan Holsey and out-fielder Lauren Jones — are on the second team.

Local volunteer Tom Henderson passes away

June 5, 2015

Tom Henderson, 66, a man very involved in many local organizations and activities, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015 at his residence in Sweetwater.
Services are pending with McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. He is survived by his daughter, Hillary Pitts, and her husband Ryan of Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Highland students to host day-night golf tournament

June 5, 2015

he Highland Class of 2017 will be hosting a Day-Night Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 13, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Sweetwater Country Club Golf Course.
The three-person scramble will cost $225 per team, with mulligans available for purchase. The event will be flighted after nine holes. There will be a cash payout, with food and drinks available as well.

Local Boy Scout to attend World Scout Jamboree in Japan

his summer, more than 30,000 Boy Scouts and leaders from 161 countries around the world will converge on Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi, Japan, for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree. Dylan Heiskell, a Life Scout from Sweetwater's Troop 140 chartered by the Fourth and Elm Church of Christ, will have a once-in-a-life opportunity to attend.
Heiskell is current a sophomore at Sweetwater High School and has been a member of Scouting since he started the first grade. He has a busy schedule, being involved in band, football, track, Spanish Club, AVID and Scouts.

Trinity Baptist to host summer meals program

Nolan County Cruisers donate to WTCAC

The Nolan County Cruisers (NCC) recently made a donation to the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center (WTCAC) in the amount of $1500 through proceeds from their annual car show held on the second weekend in May. The NCC has raised funds from the WTCAC for the past five years in order to assist the center and the local children they serve.

Maryneal Homecoming Reunion slated for June 13

June 5, 2015

The Maryneal Community Center and Volunteer Fire Department are having a Homecoming Reunion on Saturday, June 13.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Lineup for the parade will be at 10 a.m. at the corner of Maryneal Baptist Church and Muncy's Place.

Roscoe students place in speech competition

June 5, 2015

Three students from Roscoe Collegiate High School competed in the annual Texas Association of Pupil Transportation’s (TAPT) School Bus Safety Speech Competition at Region 11 Educational Service Center in Waco.
Sophomore Caleb Ward placed third in his class winning a $200 scholarship. Freshman Murissa Horton placed fifth and senior Cutter Davila placed eighth in their respective classes. Students wrote and delivered speeches about “bully free zones” on school buses to the TAPT committee, judges, parents and community members.
