JV volleyballers remain unbeaten in district

Sweetwater High School’s JV volleyball team brings a 5-0 record into its District 2-4A match at Snyder today after a 25-17, 25-11 win at Big Spring on Saturday.
The freshman team fell to 2-3 in district on Saturday after losing to Big Spring 22-25, 25-19, 8-25.

Football
Sweetwater freshman and JV teams will host Midland Greenwood at 5 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
Sweetwater 7th and 8th grade teams will play at Midland Greenwood at 5 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.

Rotarians, TSTC host visiting Malawians

The southeast African nation of Malawi is known as the "Warm Heart of Africa," a nickname which rings true for the more than dozen Sweetwater residents who have made the 9,200 mile journey to Malawi over the years.
Malawians are often described as generous and hospitable, hence the moniker. But Malawi is also one of the poorest, underdeveloped nations in the world, with the average rural worker earning between $1-2 per day.

Mildred Faye Egly

Mildred Faye Egly, age 92, of Sweetwater, passed away on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014 at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 at Garden of Memories with Pastor Jimmy Bennett officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.

I-20 closed eastbound near mile marker 255

A truck fire in Nolan County has caused the closure of eastbound I-20 near mile marker 255 for approximately two miles. Drivers are encouraged to seek an alternate route until the scene is cleared.

New jail to ease law enforcement, taxpayer burdens

It's been a long process with several delays along the way, but Sheriff David Warren said recently in an interview with the Reporter that the new jail, when completed in May 2015, will ease a lot of burdens for both his staff and the taxpayers who funded the project.
The main issue: the current jail located at the Nolan County Courthouse was simply too small to house the amount of prisoners the county needs, according to Sheriff David Warren.
