his summer, more than 30,000 Boy Scouts and leaders from 161 countries around the world will converge on Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi, Japan, for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree. Dylan Heiskell, a Life Scout from Sweetwater's Troop 140 chartered by the Fourth and Elm Church of Christ, will have a once-in-a-life opportunity to attend.
Heiskell is current a sophomore at Sweetwater High School and has been a member of Scouting since he started the first grade. He has a busy schedule, being involved in band, football, track, Spanish Club, AVID and Scouts.

The Nolan County Cruisers (NCC) recently made a donation to the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center (WTCAC) in the amount of $1500 through proceeds from their annual car show held on the second weekend in May. The NCC has raised funds from the WTCAC for the past five years in order to assist the center and the local children they serve.
The Maryneal Community Center and Volunteer Fire Department are having a Homecoming Reunion on Saturday, June 13.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Lineup for the parade will be at 10 a.m. at the corner of Maryneal Baptist Church and Muncy's Place.

Three students from Roscoe Collegiate High School competed in the annual Texas Association of Pupil Transportationâ€™s (TAPT) School Bus Safety Speech Competition at Region 11 Educational Service Center in Waco.
Sophomore Caleb Ward placed third in his class winning a $200 scholarship. Freshman Murissa Horton placed fifth and senior Cutter Davila placed eighth in their respective classes. Students wrote and delivered speeches about â€śbully free zonesâ€ť on school buses to the TAPT committee, judges, parents and community members.
Isaiah McGee was recently chosen as â€śMr. Mustangâ€ť at Sweetwater High School.
McGee was one of five recently-graduated SHS senior athletes who was nominated for the honor, along with Bray Amos, Ty Crain, Kaegan Jeffrey and J.P. Poe. McGee participated in football â€” where he won all-state and all-area recognition â€” basketball, baseball and track. He was also named all-district in baseball and was a regional qualifier in track.
Sweetwater will be playing in a 7-on-7 football state qualifying tournament held in Brock on Saturday.
The state qualifying event at Brock will have 16 teams divided into four pools and Sweetwater plays each of the other three teams in its pool, beginning with Springtown at 10 a.m.

Sweetwater Life Magazine was the host of this monthâ€™s Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce coffee event. Chamber members enjoyed networking and snacks, while learning about the magazine at Microtel Inn & Suites on Interstate 20.
