Sex offender sentenced to 10 years

A Sweetwater man had his probation revoked Monday in the 32nd Judicial Court, resulting in a 10-year prison sentence ordered by Judge Glen Harrison.

Cub Scouts visit newspaper office

The Tiger Cub Scouts Pack 146 recently toured the Sweetwater Reporter office to learn about each department and how they all work together to produce the newspaper. Pictured (in no particular order) are Jack Foster, Reece Kidd, Brady Kilgore, Lucas Palacios, Blaine Maestas, Christian Valenzuela and Joey Valenzuela. The tour wrapped up with a visit to the press room to learn how the newspaper is printed.

Tornado'ed: SW drops DH to Lamesa

On Tuesday, Sweetwater’s two varsity basketball teams finally got to play at home after being on the road for three straight games.
But despite significant stretches of strong play at from both squads, the change of scenery failed to produce desired results as Lamesa came away with wins in both ends of the District 2-4A doubleheader.

Pantoja receives all-state football honor from TSWA

Vincent Pantoja of Roscoe, who rushed for 1,403 yards and 19 touchdowns this past season, on Tuesday was a Class 2A third-team selection at fullback by the Texas Sports Writers Association.

Football Awards Banquet is Feb. 23

Sweetwater High School’s Football Awards Banquet is set for Monday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the “Center” at Texas State Technical College. Tickets for $12 each will be available at the SHS fieldhouse until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18. Meal tickets will not be sold at the door. SHS athletes, cheerleaders and student trainers will not be required to buy a ticket.

SFSA plans more signups for 2015

The Sweetwater Fastpitch Softball Association plans to have additional signups for the 2015 season at the Fourth and Elm Street Church of Christ warehouse for girls ages 5-14.

Tryouts start Thursday

All Sweetwater Little League players in Farm League (ages 7-8 as of Jan. 1), Minor League (ages 9-10 as of April 1) and Major League (ages 11-12 as of April 1) must attend tryouts before they will be drafted to a team for the upcoming 2015 season.

This morning, we'll see patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, expect mostly sunny skies, with a high near 64 and breezy winds from the west-southwest at 10 to 15 mph. Winds will change to the north at 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
We'll have mostly cloudy skies tonight, with a low around 26 and blustery winds from the north at 20 to 25 mph. Gusts could get as high as 35 mph, and after midnight, winds will decrease to 10 to 15 mph.

SW-NC Welfare Association seeks funds

Becky Medina, director of the Sweetwater-Nolan County Welfare Association, said the office's funds designated for emergency assistance are critically low.
