National Night Out activities growing

National Night Out (NNO), a nationwide program which was developed by the National Association of Town Watch, is officially being recognized in Sweetwater for the first year Tuesday, with most activities slated to begin at 6 p.m.

Nolan County Health Fair Tuesday at TSTC

The annual Nolan County Health Fair will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the TSTC (Texas State Technical College) Sweetwater campus in the Student Center gym. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and will include over 35 area vendors featuring a wide variety of services.

It’s time for an annual flu shot

The health department is administering the flu vaccine during regular immunization clinic every Wednesday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. and on the second Wednesday of each month until 6 p.m.; the cost is $20 for all adults and children 3-18 years of age, even if they have insurance. Medicare, part B is accepted. The cost for children who do not have insurance is $10, and Medicaid and CHIP is accepted. If you have any questions regarding immunizations, call 235-5463.

Martha Taylor to accompany artists at Broadway Lights

SMA’s first APPLAUSE Music Series concert, Broadway Lights, will feature three professional guest artists of highest quality, Annika Johannson, Brandon Wilhelm and Rick Piersall. The Broadway Lights concert will also feature the Sweetwater Municipal Band and the outstanding musicianship of Sweetwater’s own Martha Taylor. Broadway Lights will hit the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium stage Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Steel Magnolias to perform at Trinity Baptist Church

“On Saturday morning, Oct. 4, The Steel Magnolias of San Marcos, Texas will present a women’s reflection gathering and concert at the Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater at 10 a.m.,” announces Matt McGowen, Pastor. There is no admission charge and we invite the public to attend.

HAMLIN — Barbara Sue Jeffery, 67, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, in Hamlin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at North Central Baptist Church, with burial following at the McCaulley Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.

Several events planned this weekend

Today, October 3, Texas National Bank will have a Bake Sale starting at 9 a.m. in the lobby.
The sale will continue until all items are sold. All proceeds will go toward Relay for Life of Nolan County.
A long list of activities are slated for Saturday, such as Sweetwater’s second annual Relay for Life Car Show. Registration starts at 9 a.m., with judging starting at 11 a.m.
