Today, September 3, the Adult Literacy/ESL class will meet at the County-City Library at 10 a.m.

One extricated at wreck

A commercial motor vehicle accident occurred on Sunday around 7:30 a.m. along Interstate 20 and Highway 84 in Nolan County. The Roscoe Fire Department and Sweetwater Fire Department responded to the scene.

Lions Club to host Homecoming dinner

Homecoming is around the corner and Sweetwater High School alumni and members of the community have a chance to visit with old friends and enjoy a good meal during the Homecoming Dinner hosted by the Sweetwater Lions Club. The whole family is invited.
The meal will be served in the high school cafeteria before the game on Friday, Sept. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.

BNSF Transload Rail Park providing services

Shown is a photo of the BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) Transload Rail Park. 
The 100+ railcars full of sand equals approximately 350 to 400 semi-trailer loads of sand. The sand is delivered by rail, unloaded into the sand silos and transported by truck to the varied job sites where fracking is used in the drilling process.

April Dawn (Montgomery) Simmons

A memorial service for April Dawn (Montgomery) Simmons, 33, of Sweetwater, will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Reverend Eric Horton officiating, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
She died on Aug. 30, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
She was born on March 18, 1981 in Sweetwater. She moved back to Sweetwater from New York three years ago. She was a certified nurses aide and a waitress and attended the Church of God.

Sonny James Hermosillio, Sr.

A memorial service for Sonny James Hermosillio, Sr., 38, of Sweetwater, will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 with Emmanuel Jimenez officiating, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
He died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
He was born on March 27, 1976 in Colorado City. He attended schools at Roscoe and Grand Prairie and had moved back to Sweetwater from Lubbock two years ago. He was a truck driver for Underwood Farms.

Evelyn Schattel Clifton

Evelyn Clifton was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Scurry County to Emil and Louise Schattel. She died Aug. 31, 2014 in Fredericksburg, Texas.
