Benefit tourney is set

In conjunction with the Gary Sinise Foundation, the Sweetwater Country Club will host a golf tournament Saturday, June 20 to benefit wounded military veterans and their families.

FUMC to host music camp

First United Methodist Church (FUMC), located at 309 Cedar in Sweetwater, will hold its annual Music Camp for children entering Pre-K through sixth grade from Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26.

Carnival in town tonight through Saturday

The Pride of Texas Shows will be in Sweetwater for the remainder of the week for families to enjoy some local, summertime fun at the carnival. Weather permitting, hours will be 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. from Wednesday, June 17 through Saturday, June 20.
The carnival will be stationed on Highway 419, where the carnival takes place during the Sweetwater Jaycees' World's Largest Rattlesnake Roundup every March. Armbands will cost $25 per person for unlimited rides on the day of purchase.

Summer reading club kicks off at Library

The summer reading program recently kicked off at the County-City Library with guest reader “Molly Lou Melon” (Jane Pieper). The theme for this year’s program is Super Hero Training Academy. There will be a different reader and activity each Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the library.

Meningococcal Disease: Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department monthly focus on diseases

Meningococcal disease can refer to any illness that is caused by the type of bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis, also known as meningococcus. These illnesses are often severe and include infections of the lining of the brain and spinal cord (meningitis) and bloodstream infections (bacteremia or septicemia).

DPS reminds Texans about dangers of leaving children in vehicles

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding Texans that as summer temperatures increase, so do does the potential for vehicular heatstroke deaths in children. Every year, children die from heatstroke after being left in a vehicle or entering a vehicle unnoticed.
