Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital has earned its share of accolades during its time as Nolan County's premier health care facility. Recently, the hospital received two more awards from prestigious organizations recognizing the staff's medical prowess.

When Black Friday started in the 1960s, as a means to ring in the Christmas shopping season, retailers hoped to move their finances from the â€średâ€ť to the â€śblack.â€ť But almost 55 years later, businesses are almost foregoing the original plans and beginning their sales before the Thanksgiving turkey is even out of the oven.

Alene Jennings Clayton, 56, of Palm Springs, Calif., died on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1958 in Loraine, Texas in Mitchell County to Booker T. and Dorothy Jennings.
The Sweetwater girls fell to 0-4 after losing, 50-36, to Abilene Cooper in basket-ball action here Tuesday.
The Sweetwater boys went to Andrews and lost, 67-52, in their opener Tuesday.

On Saturday, November 29, a benefit for Julie Sawyers will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Brookshire's. Brisket sandwiches and a brisket sandwich combo will be on sale.
At 4 p.m., an auction will be held at the Jaycee Barn with a dance to follow featuring Hawk and Hag, Shane Henry and the 4X Band, and Nine Mile. There will be a cover charge.
All proceeds will go to Riley and Julie Sawyers.
Also, the Third Annual Nolan County Goodfellows Motorcycle Toy Run will take place at 11 a.m. Line up will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Nolan County Coliseum parking lot.
Today, we'll see sunny skies with a high near 69. Winds will be breezy and from the south at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Today, November 27, the Sweetwater Jaycees will have their 30th Annual Thanksgiving Day Feed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sweetwater Jaycee Barn, located at 307 W. Fourth Street. All meals are free to anyone in the public.
Also, there will be no residential refuse service on Thursday, Nov. 27 or 28 in order for city employees to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with their families. All residential containers will be serviced during the remainder of the holiday week.
