Richard David Neill, age 66, of Sweetwater, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
His body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Highland Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Rodriguez officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
A woman was flown to an Abilene hospital in stable condition on Friday morning by Air Evac after a wreck on Interstate 20. It took members of the Sweetwater Fire Department 30 minutes to extricate her from the vehicle.
The new Allsupâ€™s opened at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and, even though itâ€™s store number one in
Sweetwater, itâ€™s the three hundred and nineteenth store in the Allsupâ€™s line-up; proving that initiative and hard work continue to pay off for Lonnie and Barbara Allsup.
The Allsupâ€™s bought their first store in 1956 in Roswell, N.M. They opened with $200 in stock, $5,000 worth of fixtures and $400 of working capital. Working the store himself, Allsup said he gave it his all and, within the first year and a half, he had increased the volume from $4,000 to $20,000 per month.
At Tuesday's City Commission meeting, approval was given to an ordinance ordering the city election to be held on Saturday, May 10.
The purpose of the election, which is the date set for the state elections, is to vote for two city commissioners in Precincts 2 and 4. The seats are currently filled by Jim McKenzie and Jerod Peek, respectively.
At the meeting, all commissioners were given an election calendar in their packets, which outlines several dates and timelines that are part of the election process.
The driver of a Federal Express ground truck was making a daily pick-up at the office Creative Graphic Solutions on 1107 E. Broadway in Sweetwater on Thursday when the truck caught fire. The Sweetwater Fire Department extinguished the blaze quickly and no packages were lost to the fire.
Funeral services for Petra Ann â€śPatâ€ť Trejo, 45, of Bauxite, Ark., formerly of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Reverend Chris Stephens will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Trejo died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at her home in Bauxite, Ark.
She was born June 29, 1968 in Jacksboro, Texas. She married Antonio Trejo on May 7, 1993 in Benton, Ark.
Nora Jo Ball, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Snyder Oaks Care Center in Snyder.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Fluvanna Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, from 6-7 p.m. at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Allsupâ€™s officially opened for business on Wednesday morning in Sweetwater with many coming in to the store throughout the day, especially to try Allsupâ€™s famous beef and bean burritos.
Five years ago, a local event was started to raise awareness and money to benefit the visually impaired children in the community. This year, the "Ridin' for Cash Bull Bash" is once again gearing up and will take place Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Nolan County Coliseum. The "Bull Bash" was incepted by Matt and Annie Miles, whose oldest son Laramie Cash Miles was born with Septo-Optic Nerve Dysplasia. A person with this condition has a minimized optic nerve which prohibits the transfer of information from his eyes to his brain to process, resulting in blindness.
