Today, August 11, the Sweetwater NRCS (National Resources Conservation Service) will be hosting a Local Work Group Meeting to discuss the natural resource needs in Nolan County for the 2015 EQIP signup.
The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the USDA Service Center at 103 W. Florida. For more information, please call the NRCS office at 325-235-4485 ext. 3.
Starting at 11 a.m., Richard Fergeson State Farm, located at 808 East Broadway, will be having a Back to School Event on Monday, Aug. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring the family out for hotdogs, a bounce house and free school supplies.

The widening of Lamar Street (Highway 70) â which began in September 2013 â will continue through the spring of 2015, but the portion of the road which runs in front of Sweetwater Middle School is slated to be finished by Aug. 25, the first day of school.
While signal work is ongoing, the gutter work is done and the replacing of sidewalk and ramps flanking the street are in progress, according to Mary Belle Turner, public information officer for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
The Pioneer Museum is gearing up for a summertime event for children.
On August 12 and 13, the âPioneering the Past: Summer Discovery Campâ will be held at the museum from 10 a.m. to noon. The two-day interactive archaeology camp, with the theme "Life's a Garden, Dig It", is open to students in grades 4 through 8.
Museum Director, Melonnie Hicks, shared that Dr. Don Frazier, who gave a lecture in Sweetwater this past spring, will return to give a presentation to campers. Students will make medicine bags, play Comanche kids' games and participate in an archaeology dig.
The 2nd Annual Sweetwater Strong Red Run will be held Friday, Aug. 22. It will end the week of training for the SISD staff and be a community wide celebration for the start of the 2014-2015 school year that begins on Monday, Aug. 25. Everyone will meet at 8 a.m. on the corner of 14th and Ragland.
Sweetwater football players and coaches spent their offseason trying to prepare themselves for a brand-new Class 4A district and a lot more travel this year.

Sleep may have been a factor in a wreck on Interstate 20 on Thursday morning around 11:30 a.m. when one vehicle rolled over near mile marker 239 (shown). Sweetwater emergency services personnel extricated the driver of the vehicle and transported him to the hospital via ambulance.
The driver of the truck in another wreck was flown by the AirEvac Life Team to an Abilene hospital after the truck veered off of the road and wrecked just after lunch on Thursday. The wreck occurred near mile marker 259 on Interstate 20 and the cause of the crash is unknown.
