February is American Heart Month, to observe this occasion Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screening. There will be pamphlets and information available on cholesterol. Â
The health department will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17, for Presidentâ€™s Day.
The CCD students at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish had a diaper drive during the advent season.
They collected 72 packages of diapers, 22 packages of baby wipes, several baby items and the seventh graders collected $246.86 in baby bottles that the Abilene Deanery provided to them. Most of the items were donated to the Pregnancy Resource Center in Abilene and some items are being kept at the church for any mother in need.
Keith Plantier led a session about Standardization of Training at the AWEA Safety and Operations Management conference recently.
AWEA invited Plantier to lead the session in which he spoke about the TSTC West Texas Wind program, which has earned AWEA's Seal of Approval annually since 2011.
Funeral services for Charles Lawrence, Sr., 90, of Sweetwater, are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.
Lawrence died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab in Sweetwater.

It will be Big Spring vs. Sweetwater at both places, but high school basketball fans will have to choose which game to see in todayâ€™s District 4-3A action.
The girls game between Sweetwater and Big Spring at 8 p.m. in Colorado City will be a tiebreaker to de-termine the No. 4 playoff team. If Sweetwater wins, it will play Fabens on Tuesday in bi-district at Pecos.

For the weekend, we'll see highs in the low 60s. However, a change in nighttime lows will be evident from Saturday to Sunday, with Sunday night's low at 28.

Local authorities were busy on Thursday morning, responding to several calls of wrecks including one on Interstate 20 mile marker 244 when a vehicle rolled over in the west bound lane.
Shown, members of the Sweetwater Fire Department also responded to a vehicle fire in Fisher County. The vehicle was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the scene.
There was nobody in the vehicle when the blaze began and the cause of the fire is unknown.
Nolan County United Way along with co-sponsors; Smartt Move, LLC and WETS, Inc.Â are set to kick off the Nolan County United Way's Third AnnualÂ Rattlesnake Round-Up Gun Raffle, benefiting NCUW's nine local agencies and the thousands of Nolan County residents they support.Â These agencies are Boy Scouts of America-Texas Trails Council, Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, GirlÂ Scouts-Caprock Council,Â Medical Reserve Corp, Sweetwater Back Pack Buddies, SNAP, West Texas Children's Advocacy Center and Women's Resource Center.
With the flu season well underway and widespread outbreak across Texas, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is taking action to help Nolan County residents prevent infection. Hospital officials are reminding the community that flu shots are available for only $25 and everyone age six months and older should get vaccinated.
