Lady Hornets 'net' another trip to the regional tourney

Highland's Hannah Allen begins trimming down the net after a 56-39 win over Grady on Tuesday that advanced her team back to the Region II-1A tournament in Abilene later this week. The Lady Hornets, who won the tournament and advanced to state the last two years, face Garden City in the II-1A semis at 1 p.m. Friday at Abilene Christian University's Moody Coliseum.

Veteran benefits undergo changes

Nolan County Veterans Service Officer Robert McBride said there's been some changes in how veteran's benefits work that could have an effect on how former servicemen and women receive medical care.

RPMH offers free cholesterol screening

February is American Heart Month and to observe this occasion, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon to offer free cholesterol screening. There will be pamphlets and information available on cholesterol.

Highland girls’ win returns them to ACU

BIG SPRING — After a start that saw six lead chan-ges, the Highland girls bas-ketball team took charge of Tuesday’s Class 1A regional quarterfinal playoff with a 56-39 win over Grady — sending them to the Region II-1A tournament for the third straight year at Abilene Christian University, where the Lady Hornets are two-time defending champions.

WxTEC hosts first membership reception of 2015

The West Texas Energy Consortium (WTxEC) welcomed Todd Staples, President of the Texas Oil and Gas Association, to West Texas for an afternoon of networking with members and local officials. The event, hosted by WTxEC business partner, Pioneer Natural Resources, featured remarks from U.S. Congressman, Mike Conaway and Pioneer Natural Resources VP of Permian Affairs, Susan Spratlen in addition to special guest speaker, Todd Staples.
