Six football players from Sweetwater are on the all-District 4-3A first team.
A seventh player, defensive lineman Cory Mendez, was named District 4-3A co-newcomer of the year.
Four first teamers â€” quarter-back Kaegan Jeffrey, wide receivers Bray Amos and Kaleb Hoover and center Andrew Davis â€” were named on offense while two others â€” linebacker Mar-quees Jenkins and defensive back Isaiah McGee â€” were named on defense. In all, 18 Mustangs were honored.

Representatives from the Deaf Action Center (DAC) in Abilene will be at the health department on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 11a.m. to talk about their services. The DAC serves people who are deaf and hard of hearing with a comprehensive range of services. They will educate and train people in coping and communication strategies, assistive devices and Relay Texas Service and more. DAC assists the hard of hearing, deaf, deaf/blind, vision impaired, speech impaired and mobility impaired, in receiving free communication devices from the State of Texas. The Sweetwater Jaycees have hooked up a direct line with Santa Claus and from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, kids will be able to call and talk to Santa.

Brookshire Grocery Co. stores throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas began the 32nd Annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive recently.
Approximately 150 Brookshireâ€™s and Super 1 Foods stores will collect donations of non-perishable food items and team up with a wide range of service organizations, food pantries and other volunteer groups to distribute food to families who need assistance.

Services for Billie Sue Irving, 73, of Sweetwater, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Mount Rose Baptist Church with Rev. Tommie J. Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
She died on Nov. 29, 2013, in Sweetwater.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1940, in Snyder. She married Arnold Irving. She was a member of Mount Rose Baptist Church, and she worked as a nurse aide.
Dorothy Helen Whisenant-Broughton, 79 of Converse, LA passed from this world in the fellowship of her family and friends on Wednesday, Nov. 27. A native of Roscoe, Texas, â€śDottyâ€ť spent the majority of her life in Sweetwater and Abilene, Texas. The eldest daughter of Sam and Lena Whisenant, of Roscoe, she is survived by her sister Mrs.
Richard Armstrong, 77, of Dublin, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Snyder, Texas, to Robert Lee Armstrong and Susan Elizabeth Mimms Armstrong. Richard married Carolyn Watson July 10, 1955, in Sweetwater, Texas.
