The Nolan County Board of Realtors is offering to all interested Nolan County graduating seniors, of the Class of 2012, an opportunity to apply for the NCBR annual scholarship. If you are planning to continue your educational experience beyond high school, the NCBR is offering four $500 college scholarships to help you with your expenses.
Jerry Hulcy, local businessman, has filed to run as a Republican in the upcoming election for Nolan County Commissioner Precinct 1. Jerry and his was Sara own the Dairy Queen in Sweetwater. Jerry has 39 years of business experience. Jerry has lived in Nolan County for 34 years. Jerry and Sara have three children; Renee Carey and husband Clay in Sweetwater, Craig and wife Laurie in La Porte, Texas and Chad and his wife Jennifer in Abilene, Texas. They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Jerry attends Lamar Street Baptist Church.
Congressman Randy Neugebauer invites the public to have coffee with him from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at JavaJax, located at 325 Oak Street.
State Representative Susan L. King would like to invite the residents of District 71 to a public town hall meeting on Monday, April 30, at the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Board Room located at 810 East Broadway in Sweetwater, Texas beginning at 10 a.m.Â
Sweetwater Emergency Services personnel responded to three wrecks, all within 30 minutes of each other, in Nolan County on Friday afternoon, April 27, 2012. According to Sweetwater Assistant Fire chief Chris Kiser, one person was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital via ambulance after a two car accident occurred on the corner of Broadway and Elm Streets (shown above). One person was in each vehicle.
SWEETWATER â The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a rangeland recovery program from 6-8:30 p.m. May 8 in the Nolan County Courthouseâs third floor meeting room.

The Annual County-City Library Book Sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 27, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex. There will be a brown bag special on Saturday. Books available include fiction, nonfiction, paperback, childrenâs books, religious books, craft and cookbooks, magazines and special collectorâs items. Highland Heights United Methodist Church recently consecrated a collection of items for the Samaritan Hospitality House located in Colorado City. It ministers to families who are visiting loved ones incarcerated in local prisons.
With a homelike atmosphere, the âHouseâ provides weekend lodging for family members during their stay free of charge. Congregational members are pictured above with the consecrated articles that filled the altar.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 64 calls for service, issued nine citations and made no arrests on April 25, 2012.
The SPD received 33, 911 calls.

⢠Theft â 100 block of S. Hopkins.
⢠Theft â 200 block of SE Georgia.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 11 calls for service, served no civil papers and made one arrest on April 25, 2012.

Barbara Jean Hanks, born Dec. 28, 1927, went to be with her Savior and family on April 26, 2012. She was a loving, sweet mom and devoted wife. Greeting her at the gates was her husband of 45 years, Billy Ray, who left this earth on Nov. 20, 2011. He served in the Marine Corps. Among others waiting to rejoice with her was her dad, George Edward Jocoy and mom, Fannie Elena Dooley Jocoy. Her father-in-law, WWII Veteran, Maynor Benjamin Hanks and mother-in-law, Lila Geisler Hanks, a sister and numerous cousins and friends were also waiting.
Phil Montoya, 57, was killed in a car accident in Utah on Saturday. He was a man of many interests and much intelligence, more than anything, Phil was known as a friend.
He grew up in Utah, and settled in Texas after hitchhiking through most of the Western United States. He married and had two daughters, Traci and Lauren.
Phil owned two successful tax offices and enjoyed making a living in a practical way that helped people.
