A summer kidsâ€™ event called Movin' On Up will be hosted at Broadway Baptist Church from Monday, Aug. 5 to Friday, Aug. 9. The church is located at 710 E. Third Street in Sweetwater.
Kids jump into schoolhouse fun at Movin' On Up where they participate in memorable Bible-learning activities. Children will sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, dig into yummy treats and create Bible crafts theyâ€™ll take home and even share with others.
Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) is pleased to announce that, starting this fall, they will be able to offer college dual credit classes at no cost to students.
Several years ago, a trust was set up by Charles Nunn to cover over 50% of the tuition for the college dual credit courses. However, during the July meeting of the SISD Board of Trustees, the board decided to pick up the remaining cost and make the classes free to students.
A presentation on the construction plans for the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) Cardiac Rehab facility was given by David White with McKinstry during Monday night's meeting of the Nolan County Hospital District's board of directors.
The board was shown images of the front, side and aerial views of the facility. One particular point of discussion was the design of the parking lot, which would add 74 additional spaces that include parking to be in compliance with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).

Over five years ago God granted me one of my wildest dreams.Â He allowed me to come to Sweetwater and pastor the greatest church on earth, Broadway Baptist Church.Â Throughout its history Broadway Baptist, formerly known as Fundamental Baptist, has had some amazingly awesome pastors.Â Pastors who loved and led the church, building a foundation of people that has lasted over 85 years, and this Sunday I will have the privilege of celebrating my fifth anniversary as pastor of this wonderful group of people.
The Sweetwater City Commission met on Tuesday to take action on two contracts between Georgia-Pacific Gypsum and the City of Sweetwater. Approval was given for amendment number one of the water supply contract and the industrial district contract between the two entities.
The water supply contract is tied into the industrial district contract, in which the city has agreed to and accepted the terms. Thus, the execution of both contracts is to be simultaneous.
During the meeting of the Nolan County Hospital District board of directors on Monday night at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH), the 2014 Capital Budget was reviewed and approved.
The board's finance committee held a previous meeting, in which they went through the budget line by line. At Monday's meeting, the board was informed while the items have been requested, it does not mean that all of them will be purchased.
LeRoy Edward Pietzsch. 87, of Roscoe, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, in Lubbock.
A private burial will take place on Monday, July 29, 2013, at Lindale Cemetery in Bowie under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Pietzsch was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Nolan County. He married Glenna Mae Kilcrease on April 20, 1963 in Roscoe. He was a member of First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe. LeRoy was a Veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #227 and VFW Post #2479.
The 8-and-under West Texas Stampede girls softball team from Sweetwater went to the Abilene Summer Slam Tournament held July 20-21 and compiled a 5-2 record at the round-robin event for a second-place finish.

Roscoe Elementary School will host the 2013 Meet the Teacher night on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m.
The event will begin in the cafeteria where the annual Title I meeting is conducted and faculty and staff will be introduced. Student class assignments will be posted at the cafeteria as well.
Students and parents will be dismissed from the cafeteria to visit their classes and meet their teachers.Â Families are asked to bring all school supplies that evening as well.
