Eight 2013 graduating high school senior athletes â€” plus a pair of coaches â€” from Nolan County will be participating in three Fellowship of Christian Athletes area all-star games this week as they get a final taste of athletic competition before officially ending their high school careers.
Seven of the athletes â€” Tadeo Canon-Masjoan, Shelby Cason, Kelsi Cros-son, Kendra Crosson, Ryan Linebaugh, Nick Nemir and Suede Shirley â€” are from Sweetwater as are both coaches, Shane Mobley and Liz Miller. Also participating this week will be Landon Jones of Roscoe.
Former Sweetwater High School athlete Gregg Ruffin was recently named Wylieâ€™s head boys basketball coach following the resignation of Russell Perkins in May.
Ruffin was a three-sport athlete at SHS and in 1991 led the basketball team to its first district title in 29 years. He also starred in football and track and later played college basketball at Hardin-Simmons Universi-ty from 1991-95 before starting his coaching career.
For the past 16 years, he has served as an assistant basketball coach at Wylie as well as an assistant coach in baseball and football.

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce monthly coffee event will be hosted by Sweetwater Healthcare Center, located at 1600 Josephine at 10 a.m. today.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will host a ribbon cutting for Errand Solutions at 10 a.m. today in the parking lot where Anytime Fitness is located in the Nolan County Plaza.
According to Jesse Mendoza, Big Spring Area Engineer, the project to replace the US 84 eastbound overpass at westbound I-20 in Nolan County is going well.Â
The overpass was severely damaged after a collision in late September and was demolished in November to allow for a replacement.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital has recently renewed and passed the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Certified Mammography Facility as well as the Texas Mammography Accreditation Program again for three more years.
The Mammography Department has complied with the requirements of the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992 and the Texas Administrative Code Chapter 289.

Ten students from Highland High School were inducted into membership of the National Honor Society in a ceremony held at the school.
Members were selected by a Faculty Council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character.Â Â Â
Students inducted were Sierra Allen, Adrienne Gonzales, Michael Hyde, Morgan Monroe, Cristina Natha, Bailey Nervig, Beth Richburg, Preston Rowlett, Sophia Stice and Tarin Weldy.
While many people are hoping to avoid being scammed over the phone, there is still one method that is being used by some to dupe people into sending their money.
Nolan County Clerk Pat McGowan wants to make the public aware of a scheme that tries to confuse people. Property Transfer Services, based out of Wilmington, Delaware, has recently restarted their campaign of mailing out Deed Processing Notice letters to people within the county.
The Sweetwater Reds were the first place team in the Junior League and began play at a District 5 tourna-ment in Abilene on Saturday with a 12-2 victory over the Jim Ned Rockies.
They are scheduled to play the Abilene Eastern Astros in a District 5 quarterfinal at the Abilene North park today at 8 p.m.
