Sweetwater Animal Control currently has nine dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption are two female boxer mix puppies, both black, three male boxer mix puppies, all brown, their mother, a female boxer mix, a male boxer mix and a male chihuahua/terrier mix.
According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The 4th Annual Ridin' for Cash Bull Bash saw another successful year, with $8,510 raised to benefit visually impaired children in the community and surrounding areas.
The total is an accumulation of the sales from tickets, t-shirts, the silent auction, the Mutton Bustin' competition and the dance held at the Jaycee Barn after the event. All funds raised will be donated to the Division for Blind Services to be used for programs and camps for visually impaired children.
Heath Cornutt, Sweetwater Jaycee President and Chairman of the 55th Annual Worldâ€™s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up, has released the schedule and prices for the upcoming Round-Up on March 8-10, 2013. The Jaycees have released that they will be paying $10 per pound for live Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes. The Jaycees have collected more than 300,000 pounds of Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes since the start of the Round-Up in 1959.
Loveâ€™s Travel Stops (Loveâ€™s) in Sweetwater off I-20, Exit 242, will open their doors for business Thursday, March 7.
Loveâ€™s is a 24/7 operation featuring an Arbyâ€™s restaurant, gourmet coffee selection, a variety of fountain drinks, fresh fruit, name-brand snacks, travel items, gift merchandise and more. This location will also have 85 parking spaces for professional truck drivers and a Loveâ€™s Truck Tire Care center on site.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 25 calls for service, issued three citations and made one arrest on Mar. 5, 2013.

Verlia Ratliff, after a nine month battle with cancer, died on March 6, 2013. Verlia was a long-time resident of Roscoe, where she lived with her husband Charles, raised three children, and supported Roscoe Plowboys and Plowgirls through the ages.
Coming off one of its toughest losses of the still-young season, the Sweet-water High School baseball team began play at Abileneâ€™s three-day tournament this morning against Abilene Cooper at Cooperâ€™s field.
Sweetwater (6-5) lost at Andrews, 5-4, on Tuesday â€” a game Sweetwater led 4-0 after four innings.
Andrews tied it with a four-run fifth, however, and the host Mustangs won it by scoring off a Sweetwater error in the seventh follow-ing a walk and stolen base.
These six Sweetwater High School boys powerlifters will be competing in the Region I, Division II powerlifting meet Saturday. The meet will be held in Sundown.
