The Republican Women of West Texas and State Representative Susan King co-hosted a coffee at the Pioneer Museum on Monday morning, December 3, 2012.
King was elected in 2006 and will be serving District 71 for the fourth time when the Legislature re-convenes on January 8, 2013.
"Give Where You Live" is this year's campaign for the Nolan County United Way (NCUW), a local group that runs solely on pledges. This year's goal is set at $85,000.
The NCUW strives to serve local organizations and is run by a board of volunteers within the community. With Wendy Smartt as the Executive Director of the NCUW, they strive to impact Sweetwater and Nolan County.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 142 calls for service, issued seven citations and made three arrests from Nov. 30 - Dec. 2, 2012.

Six Sweetwater players have earned first team all-District 4-3A football honors and sophomore quarterback Kaegan Jeffrey is the co-newcomer of the year.
Three of the first team-ers â€” senior Willie Norman, junior Kaleb Hoover and sophomore Bray Amos â€” are wide receivers while the other three are on defense â€” senior lineman Tadeo Canon-Masjoan, senior linebacker Ryan Linebaugh and sophomore defensive back Isaiah McGee.

Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development Inc. received a Silver Excellence in Economic Development Award for their New Primary Website in the category of General Purpose Website for communities with populations of less than 25,000 from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
The honor was presented at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 2, during the IEDC Annual Conference, which is being held Sept. 30 through Oct. 3, in Houston, Texas.
This year for the first time in Nolan County, the roar of motorcycles signaled the start of the Goodfellows Motorcycle Toy/Canned Good Run.
Each rider and passenger brought a new toy and a canned good to the Toy Run and was donated to the Sweetwater Goodfellows at the annual Goodfellows toy drive on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Wal-Mart. Many others also donated food, toys and money at the annual toy drive.
A total of 315 toys were collected, which is up from last yearâ€™s total of 282 toys collected. Also a total of $457 was collected at the drive.
The Nolan County Hospital District Board of Directors met on Monday night, November 26 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) for their regular meeting.
In her Administrator's Report, Donna Boatright shared with the board that after eight years of service, board member Wayne Chowning submitted his resignation.
Hospital board chairman Steve Holcomb stated that Chowning gave great insight while on the board and appreciated his willingness to serve. On behalf of the hospital staff, Boatright praised Chowning for his service and his excellent leadership.

Samuel (Sam) T. Rivera, age 77, of Sweetwater, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.
