The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 45 calls for service, issued three citations and made no arrests on Oct. 24, 2012.
The SPD received 33, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had seven calls for service, served no civil papers and made two arrests on Oct. 24, 2012.

Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Bentura M. Salgado, Jr., 61, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwo officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Salgado died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, in Greeley, Colo.
Mary Frances Johnson, age 71, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Fourth and Elm Street Church of Christ, with Jim Wilks and Mike Crowley officiating. Interment will follow at Palava Cemetery in Palava, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
With a mere three weeks left in the regular season, all four high school teams in Nolan County will finally be playing the games that really matter â€” the ones involving other teams in their districts â€” starting today.
Sweetwater and Roscoe are well into their district schedules, and both have important games in District 4-3A and District 7-1A, Div-ision II, respectively, that they may need to win in order to remain viable contenders for the state playoffs that will begin next month. Sweetwater (1-1) goes to Big Spring (0-2), while Roscoe (2-2) is also on the road at Gorman (1-3) today.

Texas State Technical College West Texasâ€™ vocational nursing students from Breckenridge and Sweetwater campuses administered approximately 600 flu vaccines to the Abilene State Supported Living Center's employees on Oct. 3 and 4.

During the Monday morning county commissioners' meeting, Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden shared that the Emergency Vehicle Driving Simulator from the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX)--part of the Texas A&M University System--would be at the fire station for the first part of the week.
From Monday through Wednesday, a morning and afternoon session was held, which offered training on defensive driving, followed by operation on the simulator. The simulator gives drivers various scenarios to be completed.
Nolan County Girl Scouts recently presented Homer K. Taylor, Executive Director of the Nolan County Foundation, with a thank you poster for being selected for a matching grant of $5,000. The grant will go towards the renovation of Camp Boothe Oaks. Making the presentation were Crystal McFaul, Lesley Knight, Haedyn Ramirez, Haley Ramirez, Ana Hall, Homer Taylor, Cheyenne Moorhead, Kate Hall, Gabby Gomez and Morgan McFaul.
